An autumnal photo, Rosa Glauca, in OH's Norfolk garden..
I will be ordering 4 roses to climb up my birthday present gazebo in my garden in France: Open Arms Strawberry Hill Chevy Chase Guirlande d'Amour Also a red rose, maybe Darcey Bussell. All from Lens.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I'm very envious of all your bare root orders, I just have no more room for any more roses.
I thought I'd just mention that yesterday I went to deadhead some of the BfY blooms and found lower down rather attractive big orange hips which I don't recall seeing on the rose last year. I didn't deadhead after all and will see what happens. My nearby climbing Claire Austin also has good coloured hips as well so I leave those.
Just Champagne Moment for me - for the Prime Spot in the garden - the area with most sun. I hope mine will match up to Alfi's. I have been editing, rather than adding. Barkarole and New Dawns have been donated to a neighbour.
I'm hoping Lady Hillingdon will be a decent bloomer - nothing this year, though the canes are developing well and seems healthy, once she got past sawfly decimation. I have Ghislaine everywhere and might edit some out - but I'm happy for now to start them off.
I have finally figured out that my crab apple is tip bearing, which is very tedious. I don't think it's much good for a plant sold as good for hedging.
Wish list is still a work in progress here.. Borrowing the words from @WAMS Rose devils are disguised as innocent gardeners in this forum and leading us into temptations😃
I have a huge task of sorting out the garden first.. The ones left behind include Harlow carr (did not get much fragrance from it and wimpy in growth), Artemis (dropped purely for fragrance, glorious clusters when in bloom), Rosemane Janon (hardly any scent in 1st year, lovely colourations though), Grafin Diana (was not a good performer, apparently hates heavy pruning), very likely to axe Rose de Molinard.. I might be missing a couple more, not able to remember now..
Now to do my part in tempting others- Fragrant roses (Styles) have added few to their fragrant roses as bareroot for next season..😈
Evelyn.. a lovely colour.. isolated blooms in first year..
Henri Delbard is so good to smell, whatever the time or weather.. and the large blooms hold up to any weather conditions..
Dioressence.. a good bloomer with a great scent..
Louise Odier has been blooming almost continuously for an Old rose.. and the scent is what I believe a Bourbon rose scent... (very sweet, rose water to me)
Another Austin that does not disappoint in blooming is Golden celebration.. if you can forgive its nodding blooms..
'Sweet Siluetta'.. small, noisette style blooms.. rather pretty I find.. supposedly 6 x 2' but it's that already after just a few weeks..
It's difficult to recommend this book as there are no photos inside. It's very detailed, mostly about very obscure roses, but there are some interesting snippets to be had due to Mr Dickerson's diligent research. I think he self publishes..
..perhaps of limited appeal, and if I'm honest, I don't think it's a book I'll be looking at too much. There are others in this collection which may have been more suitable.
Hello to everyone again on the new thread. Things are starting to wind down in my garden, There are still some pretty blooms coming...
Sugar Moon put out 3 blooms in its first flush, 2 in its second and this is one of a pair that make up its third flush. Nice old rose scented flowers but not many of them in my conditions.
Iceberg repeating a bit better than Sugar Moon.
Claire Marshall standard that has been prolific in flushes through the summer.
Not sure what bare root orders I will be making. I really don't have much space left. Despite this, I'm sure I will be tempted by some roses and rationalise that I can fit them in somewhere.
Don't grow up - grow sideways.
Gardening in the West Midlands on a mix of neutral loamy sand & Victorian building rubble.
My first autumn acquisitions today... my husband popped down to Peter Beales to pick them up for me.. 50% off..
'Ghislaine de Feligonde'.. back once again in my garden, this time to grow as a large shrub, not a rambler if I can help it.
'Loyal Companion'.. this has been on my radar for some time.. lovely healthy foliage for the time of year, and buds waiting to come out.. it will be planted out later, but in the greenhouse for now..

I'd be interested in how you make it grow as a large shrub and not as a rambler. I have 2 coming and want to plant one as a rambler but the other would be good as a large shrub.
@PeterAberdeen Very easy actually Peter..pruning is the key. It flowers on new and old wood so you can prune it when you want, to keep within bounds. I've grown it several times, once as a 20 ft wide rambler and again as a 6' x 10' shrub. I've also had it on an arch but didn't like that. I aim this time to keep it once again at around 6' x 8-10' range.
