'Lambada'.. this is going in the ground shortly.. 'Forever Royal'.. 'Loyal Companion'.. a more typical bloom rather than the single one behind. I like this very much. Some scent. ..autumnal tones. Pennisetum orientale.. variegated Iris foliage..
Oh dear, after thinking I was done with rose purchases and only one bare root order of 7 pending from TCL, I need The Shepherdess, Vanessa Bell, Harlow Carr, The Royal Phil Orch, Loyal Companion and I'd have Avalanch Abricot in a heartbeat too if I could.
4 more of my pot pets will go in the ground and I've given away or desposed of several more so I am finding the watering etc so much easier, I must not buy more.
WAMS I got the DA physical mailer too. I notice it says Issue 01-Autumn edition so I imagine DA intend to send this out seasonally henceforth. Still not tempted more than say 4/10 by Dannahue, maybe once this forum has featured it more.
3 of the roses are going in this widened border My new purchases Belles Rives, Pearl of St. Luke's and Clem. KokonoeJulia Child is a rewarding rose, here with DesdemonaJoie de VivreGabriel OakUtopiaDames de Chenonceau
I've not been impressed with the performance of my poets wife this summer. I love the flowers and fragrance but it's not done well. It's been in ground two years and I was considering digging it up and putting in a large pot to see if it's happier. Thoughts anyone?
Far too easy to get FOMO on this thread Tack. I feature AA a lot because it does well for me, but line it up next to your Joie de Vivre and I may well have chosen that instead.
Potted Lady Emma Hamilton getting into modest autumn stride. Funny how I was really ambivalent about this rose at first but now I absolutely love it. I’ve somehow ended up with this one, a trio in the ground and a standard! It seems to have grown out of it’s early ‘car crash in an ice cream shop’ striped and spotted bloom phase though..
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Vh72 Poets wife had a good first summer in pot.. the next two summers were not as great.. I put it down to being in the pot, my infrequent feeding/ watering regime etc.. Others might be able to help with their experience as well..
@FireBat69 They are difficult to grow from seed and take a long time to mature. Im afraid the 2nd pack is a complete scam, rainbow roses dont exist, the pictures you see are photoshopped or dyed. Blue and jet black is also an impossible colour in roses. The other pack is dodgy as well as theres loads of different seeds in there. Id demand a refund.

thanks much for that information. its been 45 days from now and none of this stratified seeds grow. with that chinese rooting powder.
I really don't have a Good backyard. But used my balcony as container Gardening place. No stopping from my passion.
'The Poet's Wife' I found to be one of the easier Austin's to grow, about 4' x 6' and bloomed continuously, superior to Julia Child in this respect, as I grew them at the same time. No idea why it wouldn't perform as well in another garden.. but Austin's are notoriously difficult to establish, and often the result is much frustration and complaint..
..but that doesn't stop us from trying.. so I've just ordered 'Kew Gardens' and will be delighted to get this one back in my garden again.. the one I had deteriorated somewhat after 10 years or so, so I'm starting again..
'Tam O'Shanter' will be new to me but it's one I've always wanted to try..
Tack, incredible purple clematis there. And I do hope Trevor White or one of the other stockists of Delbard roses introduces Dames de Chenonceau here... and Avalanche Abricot while they're at it!
A wonderfully bright Lidl clematis that I had forgotten about, blooming now- I think it's Volcano/Mazowsze (?). (That's Forever Royal just about visible behind it- what a good rose this is. Thank you, Marlorena!) Penelope Lively with what another forum member, pansyface, has kindly identified as a knot grass moth caterpillar. Sarah, such pretty scented buds. Blue for You trying to crank out a bloom or two more before winter descends. The colours and smaller flowers are almost crocus-like just now. Susie.. again. Great sturdy thorn-monster. Beautiful Evelyn, with its lemonade fragrance. The Shepherdess And penstemon Strawberries and Cream, with plenty of new buds again. Do you all overwinter your penstemons outdoors? Do you protect them somehow?
