@puschkinia and @Marlorena I had a climbing rose Meg at my last house in Dordogne, France. I planted it in 1991 and it was still there when I moved house in January 2021.
I used to prune off the ends with the hips in February/March. It had big, beautiful flowers which were slightly scented and it repeated just a bit after the main flush. It grew quite tall but not very wide.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
@Alfie_ great contribution to the what to do with shrubby HTs debate, thanks. I know what you mean re chainsaws, having cut my climber-trained Soul down to 12” to sort fence issues out - that was the shortest my tree loppers could go! No sign of bud break from the stumps yet. I’ve watered in a few handfuls of alfalfa pellets around the base in the hope that might wake it up.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Ive managed to plant sunset Isle, Mottisfont, perfume kisses and a fond fairwell in the new front bed this weekend. I recon I can happily get at least 7 more in!! Im thinking from my bareroot potted haul; Mill on the floss & Happy couple, a pinky lilac called 'stardust', maybe usha-ki-kiran, rest I will muse.
Im potting my discontinued Alnwick & Geoff hamilton & putting them on the draincovers outside...Ooh the excitement of space to stuff more roses in!
Not so good though, found canker on a few roses, namely pheno geno peach. Any tips to cure? Looks like harsh prune time...
Thanks both, I wasn't sure what to expect as I've only ever ordered potted roses from them before, but I'm quite pleased with it and did think it was a decent size.
It's actually bigger than the potted Boscobel I received from them in October as well.
Hope it does well, it was an early Valentines gift from OH.
Slowly building a wildlife garden, in a new build in East Yorkshire.
Just reporting the news that Peter Beales Roses has been sold to Bell's Horticultural of Lincolnshire, this is the same company that operates under the 'Leafy Tiger' name that some members here have bought roses from.
Apparently it will be business as usual at Beales under Bell's, continuing with their breeding of roses too.

As far as I'm concerned it's good news.

The angling of climbing rose canes produces outstanding results, and they don't have to be horizontal.. breaks at every node..
.. a Kestrel flew in yesterday..
Good News because Beales will get better investment?
