I think some words can have a different degree of seriousness to different people, depending on their age, life experience etc. If the term ‘pillock’ is unknown to you (which it might be to a young person or someone of a different culture) and you googled it, you might be surprised by its etymology which some folk could be quite offended by.

I’m not one who says we should tiptoe around every possible perceived sensitivity, but I do think that we should try to treat others as we ourselves expect to be treated.

  • A friend regularly shouted shut up as a response to children. Taking a deep breath, lowering the voice and giving a good explanation, often results in an understanding and generally make life easier for all. That is something I learnt whilst working in a school and children remember it.

That makes a lot of sense whether talking to a child or an adult. However. it can be difficult and time consuming enough sometimes to sort out genuine garden queries/ problems without being expected to take on the role of parenting too.
If the poster in question is a 6 year old ( debatable IMO given some of the wording ) this forum seems a rather odd choice to begin posting on   He/she doesn't come across as a youngster keen on learning about gardening but who really knows ?  What's written on a profile does not need to be factual after all.  Whatever age, he/she has been advised to seek help over the self confessed Anger Issues - I don't see what else forum members are expected to do.

@philippasmith2 I think he/she saw the profile as a way to openly tell everyone about themselves and how they felt about the world. A person that lives in fear of plants dieing is sadly what comes across to me. Possibly not a gardener but the love of plants is obvious. A gardener of the near future I hope.
Young people have a huge knowledge of the environment and the World's Flora and Fauna that is at risk. The frog mentioned is seen as stable but numbers could be affected by urban development it would seem.

It is my generation and those who gardened before me who have used chemicals to kill weeds and treat disease in plants. I need to take my share of what I did wrongly as a young gardener and share what I know now.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

I doubt very much that the OP is a very young person eg 6 yr old. To become a member on here one has to provide an e mail address. My grandson is 6 yrs old, he wouldn't even know how or where to construct an email and send it let alone have an e mail address of his yet. Granted, he is very computer / ipad/ game console etc minded, but e mails? No.

I agree, If you read this persons posts, he is clearly not 6 years old. He might possibly be neuro diverse [ but aren't we all ], but much more likely a WUM.
I think some people are being very gullible, I would have thought bede would be a reminder to you.

Nobody said the poster is six. Read the words.

when I read their bio I thought “YouTube””level 1” and description of life achievements stopping at 6 years old possibly pointed to a youngster,

The first words on the you tube bio are 'I love plants' and the link about Irises is very helpful.

IMHO no adult with an IQ higher than their age would come storming into a room shouting 'look at me' and behave the way the poster has. My guess FWIW is young teenage boy who has only ever dealt with adults as teachers and parents, not peers.

I was aware of that @plant pauper as I did read it. I was using it as an example for the statement I made🙂

Funny you should say that, @plant pauper, but that was pretty much exactly how bede introduced himself to us. So I hope you are right, but I have seen far too much allowance given to some posters before.

I'm afraid I'm usually a bit too quick to judge but this one just seems like a bit of a balloon!

Why would one introduce oneself like that if it's nonsense? How very odd! I fear I may be too 'normal' for social media and if I'm the benchmark, then that in itself is a worry.

The reactions of the person on the thread about killing off ivy [link below] were very odd, which is why some of us were unsure about the motives, and/or the mental state of the poster. The use of so many capitals is always a bit worrying. The link on the iris thread was to a US site, so that suggests a possible spammer.
The age is irrelevant as far as I'm concerned, but the responses and general style of posting suggested someone young. No idea why anyone would think it was a 6 yr old though. The profile worried me quite a bit with the number of times the word 'very' was used to describe their anger issues, and that's why I asked the mods to take a look at it. I forgot it was a bank holiday, as it wasn't one here,  and there may not have been anyone there.
