Maybe, but it wasn't that long ago when people were saying exactly the same about bede and wargarden.

@Emptyheadtime, if you read the posters bio, it is very hard, imo, to think of them other than a pillock.
Think of them as you will. Saying it out loud is another thing. You often talk about the unpleasant behaviour of others on here yet you feel calling someone a pillock is totally acceptable?
when I read their bio I thought “YouTube””level 1” and description of life achievements stopping at 6 years old possibly pointed to a youngster, and feel this was backed up by their posts and what I saw on their YouTube. I may be wrong. The joys of not having a private profile allowed me to come to my conclusion. It helped me in my decision making, rather than using my first reply to a new poster to call them a pillock. I don’t see what your post added other than unpleasantness in this instance.
you say you will continue to call out what you see as wrong. Good for you, fight fire with fire and join in with the unpleasantness if you so wish. I am all for debate and different opinions but many are getting tired of the bickering and name calling on here.

A friend regularly shouted shut up as a response to children. Taking a deep breath, lowering the voice and giving a good explanation, often results in an understanding and generally make life easier for all. That is something I learnt whilst working in a school and children remember it.
My response to the question on the Venus Fly Trap was wrong and I believed it came from a place of fun until I later read the profile. Lesson learnt by me.

With all the debate about people's profiles on the other thread, I wonder if this behaviour is going to be the norm from now on.

Where a forum member takes as dislike to someone else's profile and then abuses them.

Such a sad state of affairs on this forum now.

If you look at the order in which the person posted, it seemed that there was a problem early on, and possibly a spammer or WUM at work. The ivy thread was one of the earliest ones- possibly the first, and the nature of the comments was certainly very strange.
I read the profile, after seeing the Bearded Iris thread, where another poster had been mentioned, and that's all quite peculiar, which is why I did a report to the mods asking them to look at the posts. The person may well be young, but the manner of the posts needed a look from those in charge IMO.

I think politely pointing out where someone is constantly being rude to new posters, or repeatedly telling other posters that advice based on their own experience is nonsense, and asking them to stop it is ok, whether or not that person might be neurodiverse.

Being rude is as unacceptable behaviour on a forum as it is in any other walk of life, and tantamount to bullying.

If someone’s condition is such that they are unable to understand what is generally acceptable behaviour in a given context, then hopefully they are in receipt of the right sort of support to enable this … although I concede that we live in difficult times where provision of support is concerned.  What used to be the norm a few years ago is sadly often the exception in many areas.

So...is the forum member a Spammer, a WUM...or a child?... very difficult to tell when sat at your keyboard.

These things so often occur at weekends .., and especially longer bank holiday weekends when the GW mods may not be in the office  … therefore it is hard not to suspect that there is someone posting with mischief in mind … some of us can remember back to a time when the forum was almost overrun by malevolent WUMS and Sock Puppets, some of who targeted some quite vulnerable regular posters and made the forum unbearable for them, so it’s understandable that some folk will want to act before a possible problem worsens.

However I think we do have to be careful not to overdo our vigilance and become the problem ourselves.

    Wise words @Dovefromabove

I can understand people reacting, but I don't think it's understandable for one forum member to abuse and bully another.

Is calling someone a pillock, really abuse?
If so, then some of the comments that I see posted on here, would warrant the death penalty.
I am starting to think the forum is really no longer my happy place.
