Has anyone seen the film "Cow"? It's a remarkably moving piece. It hasn't made me give up milk and beef but has made me think that maybe we need to cut back on a lot of things that we take for granted. Sadly I think we have all become somewhat distanced from the production of our food to the point where some children have no idea where things come from, apart from the supermarket.
Whilst I use oat milk I don't think that plant milks are the complete answer, if only because more agricultural land will need to be given over to growing milk rather than getting mammals to grow it for us and not all land is equal when it comes to pastoral and arable farming.

To witness a cow’s distress as her calf is taken away is a terrible thing.  The calf cannot have the milk it was born to drink because that is destined for human consumption.  How mad is that?  And, of course, what happens to the calf ……

I don't mind milk in things  so long as I can't taste it. It tastes like vomit to me.Cream is worse. Yoghurt is as bad. It is interesting to see the level of contaminants that is considered acceptable in milk, too.  I've never tried the alternatives as I don't eat breakfast cereals or drink hot drinks unless I have a cold. I like my porridge made with water and salt. Sweet porridge is an abomination.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

That’s encouraging @Dovefromabove, if only it was universal!

Thèse things take time … and initially it’s a more costly way to produce milk, so we must reward the farmers for making the changes … and of course, as well as being higher-welfare for the cattle it’s much more environmentally sustainable too, as part of a holistic approach to the local production of food.

@Liriodendron I have sweet teeth, what's left of them, and I have managed to wean myself down from a small spoon of sugar to just the tiniest tip; so little that when I'm out I say 'none thank you' as it's easier than being poisoned. I miss it though. It can be done but it takes a while...about three grains a day! 🤣

When I was 11 I discovered that my Granny didn’t take sugar … I thought that must be very grown up so I stopped taking it too. I’ve not had sugar in drinks or on fruit or cereals since then. 😇 😂

Off the beaten track, but on the subject of sugar, have you a jar of molasses in the cupboard for Christmas cooking?   A teaspoonful in a mug of coffee cuts the bitterness.

A good hoeing is worth two waterings.
