AI Bot?

Hi Folks, this is probably a strange Q but how do you tell if a poster is real, or a Bot! There have been a few responses to posts from one member today which have me wondering. Are Bot responses a thing, if so I'm fascinated as to how they do it!

I think I know which one you mean @Poppypuss. ;)
No idea how they do it, but someone techy enough on the forum might be able to help.

We had a very odd one recently who had posted in a perfectly 'normal' way initially, and even responded at one point, when challenged, in that normal way, but the majority of their recent posts were totally different in structure and speech, leading a few folk to think they could be AI.
I don't know if it's relevant, but a lot of the terminology - and spelling - is definitely American in these instances. That recent one was spelling colour without the 'u', for example.  :)

I really don’t get why they do this @Fairygirl I value the well researched and considered responses of Forum members so to get a stock answer with no reference to previous posts is annoying. I also can’t stand the motivation speak at the end but maybe that’s just me being a miserable Brit 😉

number of posts is a hint, look at Fairy, 53000+, you know she's been here a while and is real. Bots are more come and go and a different one turns up

A Bot is a computerised programme that answers questions as if it is a real person. I had the unfortunate experience of communicating with one at M&S last week, when they sent me one t short instead of two. The damn thing kept telling me my order was complete and I had collected it.  Finally I got through to a real person.

Ro-bot … aka a computer programme designed to perform a repetitive task online.

I saw a post on another gardening forum the other day that ended ‘ Don’t hide from the storm, learn to dance in the rain’ It just makes you cringe.

I was amused by that (AI) poster opening one of his replies with ‘I feel you’. I thought that was a bit forward.

I suppose forums such as these are places where students and those with more sinister intentions can hone their skills.  I'm not sure I'm taking to the role of lab rat .
It's a step beyond the -  what bit of kit that you don't need would make your life easier ?-  questions that we get from school children.

Thank you all for the info. Being a person of a certain age I never understand all the shortened names people use or alphabet letters people use at the end of emails that they expect me to understand - etc is about the only one I know.
