I thought I could do that too (just use Apple Pay on my iPhone) @Alfie_, but every so often the machine asks for the actual card. I ordered pork carnitas tacos from a food van once and didn’t have my wallet with me; naturally when I used my iPhone to pay, that was when the machine asked for the physical card so I had no lunch that day…

Now I just use my card to tap and pay more often than not.

I still have a wallet to hold not just my credit and a debit card (plus a couple of £10 notes), but also my library card, Boots, National Trust, garden centre cards, etc. I know there are apps that can hold the same information (I use them for John Lewis, Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and a few other things — otherwise I’d need to stuff more cards in my wallet). Guess I’m getting old and old fashioned!

I find quite a number of market stalls and charity shops which will only take cash, so I generally have some with me (if I remember...)
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
