I always have a certain amount of cash at home - notes and loose change - because both the Egg supplier and the Organic Farm shop use a Cash Only Honesty Box system.

Mine would normally be pennies and some small change only, but some car parking areas up here [when I'm hillwalking] only take cash, so I have to remind myself to keep some.

£20 — been in my wallet for more than a year now…

The only time I used cash recently was to pay for cake/tea at a charity open garden (as they couldn’t work out how to use the remote card machine) a couple of months ago

I usually carry around £50 in my wallet unless I know I'll need more . I prefer cash never been keen on using plastic except for buying online. Hate some places that only take card payment I tend to avoid them places , usually end up spending more money paying buy plastic especially if you're at the pub .

I use cash when paying in small places, I end up with thousands I have to pay in to the bank via my roadside stand. I also accept mobile pay which is a Danish System where you can send money to a mobile number and that goes directly from your bank account to their bank account without you needing any information other than their mobile number. But Business Mobile pay and card transactions cost money and taking cash to the bank is free so I much prefer to receive cash and will always pay with it when buying from other small businesses.
The only person who wins in a cash free society is the bank, every single transaction they get a cut of.
If you come here and buy a cucumber from me for 10 DKK if you pay cash I get 4.3DKK after taxes, if you pay by mobile pay I get 3.4 DKK basically I lose 10% of the transaction on small transactions plus there's a standing monthly fee for the service (and there is for card machines as well)

Oh I also keep about 50 in the car. enough to buy fuel if I happened to forget my wallet. Of course I would have to find a nice person to give the money to and then get them to pay as all the petrol stations are unmanned.

I’ve been using my credit card almost exclusively since Covid. I do have some notes and small change in a plastic bag in my handbag( shoulder bag!) Coincidentally, I have just parted with a one pound coin for some green beans at the honesty box at the farm down the road. On my next trip to Sainsbury’s, I must remember to use the self check out that takes cash, and get some change ready for the summer fruit and vegetable season.

I use my credit card for most things but I like to have some cash just in case.

I do my main shopping with a credit/debit card but I like to have some cash in reserve just in case and a coin in the car for the SM trolley.  I pay cash for the coffee we drink at the café while checking the shopping list before diving into the SM.

My wife will be having her nails done in a couple of days and they want cash.  Our hairdresser will be coming to us on Saturday and she also only takes cash.  We had a sewing machine serviced last week and that person also only takes cash.  A cashless society seems a long way off for us.

Often I just take keys and phone with me now, in a very small bag. There's usually some odd change kicking about in the car for the country park's carpark...
