Carrying cash

Following up a recent discussion on here about cash, I ventured an opinion but had no evidence to back it up. If your wallet or purse was stolen in the next hour how much cash would be lost?

I took £40 out of the cashpoint the week before the first lockdown. I broke the second £20 note a few weeks ago

I live in a rural area, and some of the small shops don't take credit cards for little things like a birthday card.  So I tend to keep about £30 in cash with me.

We went to Sweden a few years ago and we didn't bother to take any currency.

I use only credit cards, not a debit card and not on a phone. I pay all credit card bills in full every month.  I don't like using ATMs or cash (post Covid paranoia!) and my bank closed its local branch last year.

I'm a cash person, so like to keep a nice amount in my wallet, I'm not a fan of using my debit card for anything other than going to the cash machine.

I keep cash in my handbag, but I don't actually carry my handbag with me - it gets left in the car. I just carry my debit card in my back pocket for the day-to-day stuff.

I'm moving over to the use of card, rather than cash. Two weeks ago there was more than £200 in my wallet, but most of that has gone.
Much of it has gone to my wife. I keep finding "IOU" notes, in place of cash. Not helpful when I try to buy something! Shops here don't accept that sort of payment.

The kids' school is constantly asking for cash donations for various things so I keep paying for stuff with cash just so we have change on hand. Most cash goes on activities and treats for the kids anyway.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I think there is £10 in the car, but since I have not been able to go into a shop for over 30 years I never carry any money at all, cash or plastic.

My tai chi instructor only takes cash (£6 per week) and it's easiest to pay the window cleaner cash (£6 per 4 weeks-ish depending on the weather, but I owe him for last time because I was away and OH didn't answer the door to pay him 😠). I also tend to use cash for shopping in the market (small-ish amounts like a reel of thread and suchlike). I have more in the house but only because my parents sometimes reimburse me in cash when I do shopping for them. Depends whether they feel like wrangling with online banking to do a transfer.
