    But it just doesn’t work.

On the topic, the etymology of poppycock amuses me.

    Same here @JennyJ

I’d say nun with a hard “uh” and none with the same o vowel sound as in top or dog; like “gone”.

When using the “correct” pronunciation they are homophones.

In that case, @TheGreenMan, can you hear a distinction between non and none?

    Nope @BenCotto

    Homophones ‘round these parts!

I lived in Berkshire for years so I was peer pressured into doing it all “properly”.

Years ago I was walking with a musician friend past a university building that was home to its urology department.  Ah, he said, I should study there, so I can become a piss scientist instead of a piss artist.

    Still makes me chuckle.

I pronounce none and nun the same. How do you say them @JennyJ?

Nun rhymes with bun, pun, sun etc. None rhymes with con, Bonn, shone.

Can you explain, please. I thought nine was neun....

And if I remember rightly, the German word "nein" means "no", not "none", and the German for zero would be "null".

English pronunciation is wonderfully varied even within quite short distances, let alone across the pond. My OH pronounces bury and berry the same :o.
