We had a bit of a wetting here in East Suffolk.  Not enough to right home about.

We got another 5mm overnight :). Now if only it would do that two or three times a week for the rest of the summer.

Last night the Met Office was promising us heavy rain for tonight. Now they've updated the forecast to show the bulk of the rain completely missing us. :|  I'm still amazed that millions of pounds worth of equipment can't produce an accurate forecast even 24hrs ahead.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

They can predict where the rainclouds will pass, but not precisely where they will drop their rain.

Our "pond" has been a sludge for over 6 weeks. After Friday nights rain we can see some water again but the water butts not filled. We need the rain water for our orchids and carnivorous plants. Will the thunderstorm happen today?
We’ve taken advantage of that situation and cleared our pond out.

12hrs difference in the forecast. I realise it's not a huge difference but I'd just expect a little more accuracy in that time frame. In the top one the heaviest rain tracks west of Cardiff heading north and in the update below it's across the Midlands heading north-east.

Yesterday I tracked the rain using rain radar and although it showed the weather system passing right over us, we only had enough rain to dampen a frog's back. I hadn't watered the plants in anticipation of getting a decent downpour and here we are, still arid conditions. At least the leaves got a bit wet.

Three hours later and the forecast changes again...

  • The radar had shown nothing above us at 6 yesterday. At 8, it started raining. This morning I found around 35l from the 3 sqm greenhouse roof in the butts.
