Blessed rain

It has just rained heavy for about 30 minutes and now the sun is out this is the first meaningful rain that we have had for over a month, this short downpour has filled two 200 litre water butts which are connected to the same down pipe and were virtually empty, brilliant! On the downside we are forecast to have thunderstorms later although the garden needs it as some plants are showing signs of drought, it never rains but it pours I suppose.

Stop boasting you two  :D:D  We had a splattering of rain a couple of days ago but water butts remain resolutely empty

Finally, a decent downpour after weeks of empty promises.   I've just had to go down the garden in wellies and with an umbrella to save my seedlings from drowning and have set their trays out to catch rainwater.  Bess has taken refuge in her hen shed and is crooning.

I love the sights and sounds of a good storm but Bonzo doggie gets frightened so we've had to close all doors and windows.  I shall retreat upstairs to my sewing room and indulge myself.

I've just looked at the met office storm tracker and according to that the storms are going to miss us today which is a bit of a pain as I was going to use some of the water from the butt to top up the fishpond but won't risk it as I want the water to water plants.

Our "pond" has been a sludge for over 6 weeks. After Friday nights rain we can see some water again but the water butts not filled. We need the rain water for our orchids and carnivorous plants. Will the thunderstorm happen today?

I have a small garden with four water butts but even so it seems that we either have too much water or too little.

I have too much, rain and storms nearly everyday for the past four weeks.  :#
  • Went out for a house viewing, visited some friends in north-east Kent - and got rained upon, returning home.

No need to water the garden this evening. Very thankful. However, had to rescue several indoor plants that my wife had so thoughtfully put outside this morning. They look a touch battered.

Lovely hot sunny morning, rain this afternoon, have been out deadheading just now. Hubby managed to get the dahlias planted today. We've got 6 waterbutts,he tells me they are all full. Neighbours you all know about, are away,so he has cut back the b***** brambles coming over our side,it's quite a challenge because they're behind the greenhouse, shed and summerhouse. I'm having a go at the fir trees tomorrow, also incrouching well into our garden.
  • My water butt was only half full this morning , now its full and has filled up the secondary one .  I  also  rescued a frog from jumping from my garden steps onto the pavement  towards the main road  during the torrential rain .
