And it’s more garish cousin Cafe au Lait Twist, I’m starting to almost like it now @WAMS 🙈😂 All my dahlias are still standing after the terrible gales we had on Saturday
They save me a fortune on cut flowers, I would normally buy a bunch of something every week, but from the middle of July until October I pick these for the house. I’m not very artistic but they still brighten the place up.
I think all of my dahlias are out now,* Alfie_, with the straggler Thomas Edison (horrible name.... Elephant Electrocutor!) appearing only in the last two weeks, though the molluscs have been so ridiculously persistent this year that they haven't all produced pristine blooms yet. Your beds look really nice. Your dahlias are beautiful, @CatDouch. I am also liking Twist more and more! Lovely posies, too.
*Edit: I tell a lie... "Rhubarb and Custard" from a small cutting has yet to set buds.
I really wanted to like Cafe au Lait, and planted it with great anticipation last year... sadly it's not for me... not sure why, maybe just that it was too big and seemed to dominate the plot and the vase! Anyway, pulled it out, and am much happier with the ones I planted this year!
@WAMS yes I agree, a terrible name. I got bought it as a gift for the physicist in me but, as many don’t know (including the gift giver), he was a horrible man (even animal killing aside). He killed many dogs and some calves too all in his quest to try and discredit Tesla’s a.c. current. Never won the Nobel Prize nor invented the first light bulb so no idea why you would choose him for a dahlia name! Rant over 😂

Oh yes! I remember getting marked down in a Standard 4 (year 6 nowadays) test for saying Joseph Swan and not Edison invented the light bulb! I enjoyed bringing my Usborne Book of Inventors to school to prove the teacher wrong.😁
@WAMS - great knowledge for someone in year 6 and good on you for putting the teacher right I absolutely LOVE Wizard of Oz. As the pictures show it actually glows as well. I also spied it on the GW episode last week in that florist's garden.
@Marlorena - excellent! You also inspired me to take my first night picture (though with no special camera; just a torch and my phone ). Went to check on Blue Bayou which is a dahlia I have been eagerly awaiting to open. Nice surprise to see it has started to open since I last checked this afternoon and has a little nocturnal pollinator too......
