Morning folks. Haven't been on here for ages, life and garden get in the way! DD and Lizzie 27, I do understand. Lots of us on here have had various abusive relationships. I got pregnant in 1969, at 18,you got married then... that was it. We didn't live together,I saw him a couple of times a week, all dressed up and went to clubs. Boy what a change, when we were married. He controlled every aspect of my life, apart from me going to work. Where we would get talking about something on the news, the other women would say, they wouldn't put up with this,or any man hitting them. I remained quiet! When we did finally divorce after he tried to kill me for the insurance,my best friends from childhood, would say,"oh,I can't believe he was like that",in a very sceptical tone. Course,in those days, there was no help, police patted you on the head, said not to be a silly girl,am sure he's sorry now,off you pop home. Not interested in "domestics". Then these days you look on Mumsnet,if your husband isn't working 14 hour days, getting up the night to feed the baby, doing 50% of the housework....you should divorce him!
Good morning all 😊 ☕️ Pixel looks very cosy there @Pat E 😊 The journey back from Broomfield took much longer than usual yesterday … Bank Holiday weekend traffic plus someone broke down in the extensive stretch of roadworks. Hey ho.
By the time we were back poor son was in a lot of pain … the OT had stretched and massaged his poor arms such a lot … she was sorry she had to do it and he understood of course, but ooooouuuuch!!!! They’re all very pleased with how he’s recovering … only two wounds need dressings now … but the graft on his right arm is contracting and he can’t straighten his elbow … it’ll probably need more surgery, but not yet as that would run the risk of it doing the same again. He has a moulded splint to wear some of the time, but it’s very uncomfortable and he can’t wear it at night. Back there in a fortnight… he hopes he’ll be able to drive some of the way by then. 😊
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
I'm sorry your son is so uncomfortable @Dovefromabove. I hope the pain is better today.
We went to Lacock yesterday. It's a very pretty old village. It was used in the filming of Pride and Prejudice, Downton Abbey, Cranford and Harry Potter.
There is an old abbey too which we visited. It's all mostly owned by the National Trust. OH borrowed a buggy for the Abbey grounds because after walking around the village he was tired. I got in free for being his carer.
In the evening we went to the lovely friendly local pub for dinner.
We are taking an overnight ferry tonight. We'll have a cabin. Then tomorrow off to my daughter south of Poitiers.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning everyone, hope you are all ok and looking forward to the long weekend. The sun is shining and it looks like a lovely day is looming. We are waiting the arrival of G/Daughter and partner, they should have arrived yesterday evening but their journey from Sussex to west Wales (to deliver to deliver partner's daughter to her now job on a farm there) took over 10 hours instead of the usual 5 - traffic problems! Exhausted they decided to spend the night at the farm, unload all the luggage this morning and then come to us - we are about an hour away from where they are. @Busy-Lizzie I hope you are safely back on French soil now, do you have far to go to reach your daughter? How is OH's leg holding up to the travelling/driving? Wonderful to hear Rob's progress @Dovefromabove, sorry that things are rather uncomfortable for him right now, he is such an amazing guy and should be so proud of himself. Loved the picture of Pixel @Pat E, she looks so very comfortable with her little blanket cover. Do take care of yourself, the effects of the covid can hang around for a long while sometimes. Well I'm off to stagger down to the village shop for one or two bits. I hear daughter busy in the kitchen smashing away at the digestive biscuits - I think a cheese cake may be in the offing for pudding tonight!
oh @D0rdogne_Damsel you can empty your heart here any time. Yes, this house is your independence, keep strong: you will make it. We are all cheering for you. You and others here have made me think of how b.... lucky I have been in my married life. We have been together 38 years with ups and lots of downs but always respecting each other and in love, how effing lucky is that?
Yesterday I repotted the seedlings, decided that it is too early to go in the ground. They are now sitting on the stairs that go from the garden to the garage with some protection from the pigeons. It is so true, how lovely to loose oneself in a garden whatever the job.
I think we are all rooting for you that nothing goes wrong with the house and that you can get the keys soon @D0rdogne_Damsel. Charlie is a credit to you. And if has his father's high IQ and your high EQ - he can conquer the world! But not in a coercive way. Have you found someone else to do the books yet?
@Nanny Beach - it's good that there is so much more known about coercive and controlling these days, and that women are being believed now.
Who put that cover on Pixel I wonder @Pat E? Hope your son feels better soon, and good that your grandson is connecting with the other side of his family. Funerals are a good way for families to reconnect and so often people say - we must do this again, but for a happier occasion. Then no-one does anything to make it happen!
You and your OH do get out and about @Busy-Lizzie - I admire you! Safe crossing tonight.
Glad Rob is still moving in the right direction @Dovefromabove. But don't let him drive if you think he wouldn't be able to react quick enough in an emergency.
The bid went in yesterday - please keep your fingers crossed! We couldn't ask for any materials costs in this one, so another of the group put in a bid to a local company (Adnams for those who know Suffolk) for that. Sadly we learnt this morning that we hadn't been successful there, so now we must get to work on raising the funds some other way.
She’s now purring loudly on my lap, so I’ll probably have to sleep on my back tonight ( not my preferred laying on my tummy position) 😳🙄 oh well, can’t win them all, as they say.
