Most of those plants will not be used, they only choose the ones that are perfect at the time.

At what kind of loss @punkdoc? 10-15%? Or are you talking 50%

    At least 50%.
I remember reading about the design of a particular Chelsea garden one year. The nursery involved sourced over 5000 plants, and a Chelsea garden is much smaller than CK's garden.

They will use the best specimens at the time for the show garden as they want to win Gold but the others can and will be sold or used in other displays so won't all just end up on a compost heap.

It’ll be my first time attending one of the RHS shows @Obelixx, do they sell them there or will they have been sold off to trade?

We will be going to Hampton court too. Looking forward to it.

I haven't seen the latest GW as we were travelling, now in France so no iPlayer.

I loved the previous episode with Frances. She has a small garden but she also has an allotment and works in a garden. GW visits other gardens too and has other presenters so I don't think the fact that her garden is small really matters.

I enjoyed hearing a bit about her life and I like her enthusiasm, it made the programme come alive. I tend to doze off when Monty is talking.

No they don’t sell the excess plants at the shows, @Latimer. The stalls selling plants are separate enterprises to the show gardens. Don’t expect any bargains. In my experience the range of plants on sale can be disappointing, you occasionally get a specialist stand in the marquee selling plants or varieties you don’t see in your local GC but not many of them. I guess they know the usual will sell better so focus on that 🤔

The displays in the marquee are lovely and do have lots of interesting plants in them so it’s  worth taking a notebook.

Edited - that sounds a bit more negative than I intended. I do love looking around the specialist Nursery stands

Thanks @Butterfly66, it does sound like they are missing a trick! 😀

Didn’t sound negative at all, just the unfortunate reality of commercialism. I shall go with an empty wallet to not get tempted!

Noooooo! Take some cash in case you do spot a must-have plant that you don't see in the regular GCs.
