I enjoyed last night's programme (in fact l've saved it to watch again). It's been a good few years since l visited Tatton, but l always found it to be a more "realistic" show than the others, and l think that came across last night.
The item about the streets in Liverpool was very inspiring, so much colour.
I enjoyed it too, especially the Liverpool streets segment. I loved it when the lady was asked whether (after the success of the project) she now thought of herself as a gardener, and she replied:
"I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful."
Says it all really. In fact I'm going to steal that for my signature.
Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
Is it just me or has Gardeners' World turned into a tour round RHS flower shows? In peak gardening season there seems to be little actual gardening advice and a lot of garden design and sales opportunities for those exhibiting.
I do think it would be better if they did a "special" on a different day for each RHS show. The Chelsea coverage is complete overkill imo. Gardeners World Live is probably a different case as it's linked to the programme.
Even if Monty wanted a week off while the shows are on, there are other presenters such as Adam and Frances who can stand in as they usually do.
I read somewhere that the BBC decided not to make separate programmes for the RHS shows (other than Chelsea) this year but to put them into the Gardeners World schedule - a compromise to not showing them at all I suppose.
" Monty harvests his spuds and sows seeds for autumn veg. He also shows how to get plants for free by taking cuttings.
Adam Frost meets a couple who’ve spent decades creating a garden on the exposed chalk hills of the Yorkshire Wolds. Sue Kent is busy refreshing her garden to extend the colour and interest into late summer and autumn.
There are the windswept challenges faced by the gardeners working in an extraordinary location on a cliff edge in Penzance, as well as a gardener in Sussex who has taken the idea of outdoor living to a whole new level. Plus more of the films that have been sent in by viewers."
