If you enjoy Christmas and all it involves, then celebrate it and don't feel guilty.  If you don't see any reason for it, treat it as any other day in the year. I can't really see an argument :)

There is no "argument" Philippa. I agree, people who live alone can possibly treat it as any other day. But I'll requote what I said on page 2

"But of course you can't simply opt out if you're in a partnership, with two associated families pressing in from both sides. And then there's the TV, radio, supermarkets etc. ramming it down your throat every few minutes from the end of September."

That is what makes it such an anxiety-inducing few weeks. And that is why I started the thread and asked - "Any fellow sufferers out there?"
    Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border

I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful

  • FWIW I'm glad it's over too!

@LunarSea Wrong choice of words on my part I'm afraid.  I didn't mean turn Xmas into an argument as such.  Just that if people want to celebrate then go ahead.  If not, don't bother.
From a personal point of view, I and OH haven't celebrated Xmas since the late 70's but happily accept that others do.
I agree about the constant media pressure - you must buy this, that and the other.  When I worked with a local CAB some 20 years ago, it was quite disturbing the number of clients who wanted advice on the debts they had accumulated over the Xmas period. In many instances, they felt they had to go the whole hog even tho they couldn't really afford to do so.
Sorry if I didn't make myself clear to begin with :)
