I love the Christmas season, but well understand how it can be fraught for many. OH and I have the big day meal at home on our own, despite frequent invitations to join others in the family. We always thank them for the offer, but we really do like to do things our own way, without having to witness the vagaries of other peoples ideas of how best the day should be celebrated. Tonight, we’ve celebrated Epiphany with a nice meal. The end of the Christmas festivities for this season.
Haven't 'done' Xmas for over 25 years. An utterly pointless waste of money. I don't even like Xmas decorations..I think they look tacky. All this goodwill to all men and happy new year rubbish is just that...come the middle of February nobody gives a crap.
Sorry, Chris, but can’t completely agree. It’s how you choose to make it, I suppose, though I agree that the pressure to over spend can be intense and the over commercialisation is horrible, but there are some lovely sides to it too. I love the religious side of it - that’s important to me, and I like seeing family and friends during the season (not Xmas day itself, other than a quick morning visit to some local family).
Decorations can be tacky or tasteful - that again is down to personal preference, though. What one person loves another hates.
To suggest that no one gives a c..p after February is a sweeping statement, too. There are many, many people who do care and go quietly about their business - trouble is, that behaviour doesn’t make the newspaper/media headlines very much.

But that's the whole point of this thread @Red maple . You're forced into a situation where you have to "choose" how to "make it" when you don't even recognise the need to do anything different from the way you behave normally. That in itself can be very stressful.
Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
If you enjoy Christmas and all it involves, then celebrate it and don't feel guilty. If you don't see any reason for it, treat it as any other day in the year. I can't really see an argument

I completely agree. I'm certainly no stopping anybody enjoying Xmas or any other reason to celebrate if one so chooses...go for it....it's just that I don't.
