In his defence I would point out that Mr @WonkyWomble doesn’t spend all his time with his feet up in front of the tv. As well as a responsible full-time job he has his own part-time business that he does at home, and as @WonkyWomble has explained he also has a permanent health condition which has impacted on his energy levels over the past 12 months.
And Wonky is a superb chef who cooks properly from scratch … so no short cuts … can’t think where she gets that from 🤫

It can be easier said than done to not do it though. I know only too well. At one point in the distant past, I was a 'gnat's chuff' close to walking out, getting in the car and p*ssing off, because watching the film on the TV seemed to be more important than helping me [despite asking] and going to the table for the dinner I'd been getting ready. It was lovely when the children were little, but I now don't have to pretend to enjoy it all, because it also brings up certain, more recent, memories, and not all of them were pleasant due to one person's behaviour. Nowadays, I can suit myself, so I do the minimal. I'm not religious, so that makes a difference, and I don't believe in the excesses that many people seem to fall into at this time of year. It isn't a happy time for lots of people, and the stress of pretending it is isn't worth it - ever.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Yesterday, Possum suggested that, since we are atheists, we should forget Xmas and Easter and celebrate pagan festivals so that'll be solstices, equinoxes, Imbolc, Beltane and Samhain. Needless to say they all involve feasts - that's the Belgian influence in her upbringing then.

I think we should celebrate the clocks going forward. That's the best time of the year for me. 26th March this year. Parties on 25th, which is conveniently a Saturday.
I do it to make those I love happy. It's a stretch financially, and with my time off being limited this also causes pressure. Like I say, from now on I'm doing one Christmas meal only... Other people's expectations can be met by their own efforts, not mine!
I am not very fond of xmas either someone is always ill. Weeks of planning and then nothing. I have one quote I seem to come up with every xmas. 'I would swap for a lovely spring day out in the garden that would be much better. Perhaps it's a thing with gardeners they just enjoy being in their garden more than anything else.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
That is a good view to take @B3 it's just my Christmas dinner had cranberry sauce, pigs in blankets, brussels sprouts, broccoli in cheese sauce, fizzy wine, crackers and my family so not really an average roast I'm pleased to say

I recently saw an American foodie post about all the fuss over preparing a Thanksgiving dinner saying many Brits do a similar roast every week on Sunday - roast meat, stuffing, sides and pud. No bovver.
