I for one would love to retire at 60 but that’s not possible. My RTBC is the rain forecast for the next week. I think it’s needed by the garden and the whole country. Hoping it means no more nasty snow and cold weather.
I was advised that, in general, men tended to marry women five years younger than themselves … so the theory was that if a couple retired at 60 and 65 they would be retiring roughly at the same time, so the wife would be at home to cook meals for the husband … I honestly believe there may be a fair amount of truth in that.
That was certainly why I married my missus. She fitted the bill almost perfectly. I would only have been retired 6 months before she could look after me properly again.
My OH just a bit less than 5 years older than I am so under the old scheme we would have got our state pensions within 2 months of each other. I'm hoping my private-sector pension savings will grow a bit better than it has been so I can retire before I get to my state pension age which is now 67 (I think) - I don't much fancy relying on his cooking for 5 years (or more as he wants to retire before he gets to 67).
Sorry that's not really a RTBC is it? More of a curmudgeon. RTBC 5.5mm or rain in the gauge this morning and more in the forecast.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
Many may disagree, but I find hand weeding relaxing and therapeutic. The clay is workable today and I got a bucketful of weeds and snails. I think it helps that I don't care if I miss a few.
