    Morning all.

    Big frost this morning.

I'm going to the Gardening Club Chistmas meeting today. There will be a talk on Christmas decorations followed by wine and finger food lunch.

The garage rang, my winter tyres are in and they'll fit them later this afternoon.

Good luck @punkdoc, I hope the little b*****s have eaten the right stuff.

  • Good morning everyone,  well no doubt this morning hard frost,  we are all sparkling and white too. Stepped out to put some water for the birds to go with the dried mealworms that OH had already put out, and it's a huge contrast to the last few weeks. At least the sun is shining so we get free heat inside.
OH made mince pies yesterday and an Apple strudel to freeze for the big day.  Still haven't returned to Capel since my fall so I have a free day. If it stays bright I might try a bit of clearing in the garden, it's the last green bin collection for 6 weeks this weekend feels like the break is longer this time, maybe it's just the way the dates fall.

    Good Morning
It was pleasant this morning to see bits of blue sky, now it has clouded over and it is cold. Still, I have to go out to get some bread.
@Allotment Boy I see you live in north London where it is warmer than here. I am saying this re: dahlias. I left them in the cold Luxembourgish ground for the last two years and they have been OK. Perhaps because winters have been milder, but I have too much back pain to go out in this cold to lift them out.
@D0rdogne_Damsel I am happy to hear that Charlie is ok with it all.
@punkdoc I have a feeling that you will catch it tonight. 💪

Be well and warm all of you.

  • Bright blue sky now ... but flippin chilly ... it would be this week that the max/min garden thermometer gave up the ghost wouldn't it?  Mind you, we've had it since we moved here in 2011 so it's done well.  Not sure if we'll get another one ... the forecast on my iPhone is pretty accurate so if something needs protection we are guided by that ... and the bird bath tells us whether it's been freezing or not 😉

Exciting news ... a big lorry and a yellow dump truck are outside filling in the moat along our boundary ... no longer will we have to exit our drive over a big yellow metal plate.

We've kept the heating on this morning ... turned the thermostat down a couple of notches and turned the upstairs rads right down ... apart from the need to keep us both warm, there's also a need for it to be warm enough for the dough to rise so it's out of the oven early enough to give us some bread for lunchtime.

OH is going to cycle down to W'rose ... we've discovered that we don't have as much Christmas wrapping paper as we thought we had ...

Very cold here but the sun is out. It’s like a military drill here with some windows open, any condensation wiped away and curtains open to let as much sun in as possible.

Take care anyone who ventures out.
My garden and I live in South Wales.
  • Our heating is off now till sundown. The sun coming in the windows and doors at the back is more than enough. Might be different tomorrow if the forecast for freezing fog is correct. 🥶

Stove is lit here and the 2 sitting room radiators are on. Some of you are so hardy! I don't function below 20°. Don't think @Hostafan1 would survive at all. I wonder how he is?

I've been to the Gardening Club Christmas meeting. There was a power point talk about flower arranging with emphasis on Christmas decorations. We had coffee, mulled wine and biscuits and a chance to chat. Then there was a quiz, based on A Partridge in a Pear Tree. I joined with a nice lady who I'd met before and we won it, box of Quality Street. We passed it around the table but the others all said to keep it for my grandchildren. Then there was a good lunch, based on finger foods and a glass of wine or orange juice. After lunch we sang Christmas songs accompanied by a man on a keyboard. The club uses a Community Café only 5 minutes from my house.

I'm glad the garage has my winter tyres because a warning light has come on to say the summer tyres need adjusting but there doesn't seem to be anything the matter with them.

It’s been cold here today, with a sharp frost first thing. It’s starting to cloud over a bit now, so we may possibly get those snow flurries they said might come. I thought I’d better get off to the supermarket before it does start (if it does) and it was pleasantly calm in there, so I got done without any hassle, and now home enjoying a coffee.
We got the tree out of the garage this morning and it’s set up now to allow the branches to settle before we put the lights on it tomorrow and then the decorations. OH also put up a few lights outdoors too, so it really is looking festive. Not a quick job doing this trimming up, but worth it in the end 😊.
