  • Good afternoon,  another still dull but mild day, all very odd.
We had a nice encounter last night. I  had just gone up to bed , when in spite of closed windows I  could hear something outside. Opened the window and we were treated to about 20 minutes of call and response from a pair of Owls.  Until this autumn we've not heard any for years. Worth staying up a bit late for.
I  must have spent around 10 years on my own after me and my first wife  split. As @Dovefromabove says sometimes something happens when you least expect it. I  try never to forget how lucky I am now.  Interesting that Martin Kemp on R4 this morning talked about how important it is to be friends first and always, certainly applies to us.

I can hear "our" owls right now, lovely sound.

And here. Sounds as though a lot of us are in 2nd partnerships now. I wonder sometimes whether it's to do with our age group and the fact that so many of us got married so very young. Not a good basis for a long and happy marriage perhaps although friends of ours married before they were 20 and are still together. The exception to the rule!

I didn't realise you were single @tui34, that must be tough sometimes as Hostafan is painfully finding out. Grief takes a long while to lessen.

On a happier note, it really has been the most gorgeous day here with unexpected sunshine nearly all day. I took the plunge and severely pruned the wisteria so the winds don't rock it so much. Very undecided about what to do with the rather dodgy terrace wall it was secured to.

OH got home just after lunch, he enjoyed the Motor Show and met many friends there but of course found it rather tiring. It's only 3 months since his hip operation after all.
@Busy-Lizzie, apparently only some of the NHS Trusts have voted for strike action so nobody knows at the moment whether it will proceed or not. Hopefully not so don't get too despondent.

Thank you @Lizzie27. The NHS Trust of the hospital that OH is going to has 100% voted for strike action  :'( I hope the government does something.

I didn't know you were single now @tui34, so you must be another who has gone through a hard time.

It will be 24 years this month since first OH died.  I was so lucky to find 2nd OH. Been together 12 years now.

I've been making my new border. This is as far as I got this morning. Did more this afternoon.

  • Once again, thank you so much for the support.

I'm home alone ( once again) feeling sorry for myself, then I read the comments on here and feel better, feel hope too. A little bit of self awareness too, I fill my days because I'm not happy... Work shouldn't be the be all and end all...but if there's nothing else? ... I did meet a nice chap, but he couldn't cope with my drive and ambition.... All very tricky.

Anyway, bulbs need to be planted this week, much more important issues. I'm thinking of widening my flowerbed too at CdeG, more roses for colour and dahlias for autumn colour.

I do hope your OH gets his operation @Busy-Lizzie, my two friends who had the op earlier in October are already feeling the benefits.

Welcome home @Hostafan1, get some sleep!

Might indulge myself with a slice of cheesecake before bed, busy day tomorrow... I'm.sure I'll work it off. On my last couple of chapters of Ken Follett's The Evening and The Morning, not as good as The Pillars of the Earth, but engaging nevertheless. Looking forward to a new book club launch next month, really need some good books to engage with.

    Good night all.

    Evening everyone.

I’ve been checking in but realised I haven’t posted for ages. The last week has whizzed by for some reason.

A lovely mild day with a good few hours of sunshine here. My colleague and I usually speak or message on a Friday afternoon to check everything has been done and then to wish each other a good weekend and ask if we have any plans etc, and we both commented on the pleasant weather forecast. Nothing unusual about that, of course, but immediately as we had shared the good news on the weather we both said “Oo we hang the washing out”!

I hope everyone is doing ok, particularly those having a hard time.

Ps. I love hearing owls too - one of nature’s little treats 🦉

  • Good morning all 😊 ☕️
It’s really quite foggy out there today.

Absolutely @punkdoc ((hug))  there are some lovely chaps out there, feeling lonely too … with any luck the right stars will align one day and manouvre things so the right paths cross.
