Yes, I do, and they do, late April, if I remember correctly.

They are fickle plants tulips I got a few which come back every year some giant Pink Impression ( darwin hybrid ) and some princess Irene, They is one on the garage site which pops up somehow I've been planting this area up with bog plants cause it floods all winter but the tulip is still there.

Bought some Blushing appldoorn ( darwin hybrid ) to try in the garden and tete Boucle in pots both from Lidl , I am hoping to get a lot more mid size daffs like jetfire / feb gold to plant. I had a really nice white daffodil last year called Icewings . I'd like some really early flower daffs .

If you are struggling with alliums Purple rain is one to try its aggressive / bulks up very well. Careful with dark purple/reddish allium parentage is usually atropupereum which isn't a reliable allium,  Caeruleum ( blue ) is also very unreliable .  Purple rain / purple sensation ( normally reliable ) Globemaster / Gladiator / Mount Everest are all good doers, I sit all mine on a layer of sand and a handful on top sometimes mainly with the expensive varieties  .

Does it seem that the allium and iris retic. do best in full sun and sandy soil? There was a Dutch grower of these, featured on GW last year, who said that is how they bred the plants - sandy fields.

I did a job last year for a client who asked me if I could plant some Daffodils cause he didn't have time he planted about a square metre worth .  ' Yes fine how many of you got ' just a few he replied . When I saw them  :open_mouth: 250kg + 1000 Sir winston churchhill in a box he estimated 6000 bulbs all together ( I reckon closer to 5000-5500  ) .  I did get them planted eventually but for one bag which ended up at his relatives which I also had to plant ( between boxing day/ new years ) I didn't half have back ache . I probably planted well over 7000 bulbs last year

I highly recommend bulb buying in bulk - very much cheaper. I usually use Gee Tee and Euro Bulbs.

Queen of the Night - 50 bulbs for £8. Pack them tight into pots and in layers and 50 isn't as much as it sounds.

@Perki You must have been dreaming of Daffodils. I feel sorry for anyone who has thousands to plant at the moment. Lets hope for more rain. Sorry to forum members in Scotland, I am sure you feel you have had more than enough rain recently.

I wasn't asking anyone to justify how much they were spending, borgadr, didn't take offence, none was meant
I know how much bulbs cost. There are plenty of posters on the forum who are extremely rude,I'm not one of them!
  • This year I'm planting Narcissus  Minnow,  I like the multi headed daffs. and also Tete a Tete. Last year was my first at planting Allium Purple Sensation, wasn't sure if they would come up again so bought some more this year. Trying snowdrops Galanthus Elwesii    and Iris Blue Pearl , haven't grown either before and also a multi headed tulip Praestans Fusilier.
Last year I lifted daffs, tulips and muscari and will re plant in the front garden so I don't get confused with new and old bulbs.

@TigerFeet Galanthus planted at this time of year can be hit and miss. You may just get a few leaves next year. If you invest in more in the future best purchased 'in the green' either in leaf or flowering. Narcissus Minnow is a beauty. Planted some a few years ago and they all faced my neighbours garden to the sun. Oh well!

Yes, snowdrops and bluebells can be better when planted "in the green", in the spring, for flowering the following year.
