It’s certainly a bit of a lottery with tcl newbie. If they still have CPM next autumn I might still be tempted to order it as it’s meant to cope well with heat.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Hi all, on the mend but still not 100%, poor OH is bad with it now. Boys are all mostly fine. Nasty bug!
Had some brighter weather today so I went out to the allotment with the boys to plant Graham Thomas.
Didn't have time or energy to fully dig the bed, it needs lowering and levelling, but I got the area for the rose at the right depth, can sort the rest another time.
Exciting to see Iris Reticulata coming up and...
...the snowdrops from Wilko, expected that they wouldn't grow being dry bulbs that had been sat in the shop for months but they all seem to be coming up!
I have been reading the rose-related conversations, even though I was away abroad for more than a month. On my return, I see that many of my roses have been severely affected by frost/sub-zero temperatures. Most of the leaves have dropped, and whatever leaves are still there have been blackened by frost. Fingers crossed that I don't lose them. Well, if I lose any, I'll take that opportunity to order a few from my wishlist. Hoping everyone had a grand Christmas and wishing you all a rose-filled New Year.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
I’m glad to hear you’re feeling better @Mr. Vine Eye . Lots of people in my school (including me) have been ill with a very strange bug. I was mainly having headaches, pain behind the eyes, not having any appetite and feeling exhausted. Now most of that is gone, but I still have a nasty chesty cough. Back to school in a few days… 😱
I’ve managed to prune two of the climbing roses, both with thick, unyielding canes and both from Kordes:
I’m not sure how to deal with Lady Waterlow. I would like to encourage some flowers lower down, but I’ve already trained some branches on the top of the arch. Should I start again by cutting the long branches short and training them horizontally on the right?
I am really surprised DA withdrew it. You'd think out of sentiment and a sense of history that they'd keep that one even if it didn't happen to be such a wonderful rose!

@Eustace, I think they would be fine. Lots of my roses are looking like this.
@Liriodendron, it is always exciting time when we get the message that roses have been dispatched!
It’s felt like a very short Christmas this year!
I’m going to let Graham Thomas grow into a larger shrub. Hopefully something a bit like this at Burton Agnes.
