Lady of the Lake is really leafing out all over now. No sign of aphids either which is great. Last year she was way ahead of the other roses, only to succumb to a major aphid infestation which sapped all her energy and she then sulked and did nothing for months.
Looks to be in for a better start this year.
Also another Iris popped up which definitley is Pixie, so I've currently got 1/5 of the bulbs being what they were supposed to be!
1 x Lady of Shallot 1 x Poet's Wife 2 x Princess Anne Standards 1 x Paul Noel 2 x Madam Alfred Carriere 2 x Zephirine Drouhin
I never realised I had bought so many!
Really looking forward to seeing them all, especially the Lady of Shallot, as all your pictures really peeked my interest. The PA Standards flank the front door, maybe I'm being too thoughtful for the postie!
Poet's Wife was such a lovely yellow and The Paul Noel is planted to scramble up a large tree.
The MAC & ZD you all know about.
I've just realised: I have no red roses ... is that a crime?
BTW @Nollie Agatha got her Spring clip, so less to clean when she decides to unhelp by digging up the hellebores.
No reds @PeterAberdeen im afraid that means you need to order some immediately...
Lady of Shallot is a firm favourite here, I hope it does well for you too.
I need to compile my new list... (ok ok, 'remember what I brought...') I planted a couple but rest are in nursery pots currently.
Anyone else got Rosa "Cutie pie"? Ive ordered a couple more for the front garden as its very dinky, thornless, prolific and bee friendly! I never usually order duplicates! My late season purchased one in a pot seems very content, super healthy too, covered in lime green leaves.
@PeterAberdeen, she looks very smart, oh that cute exterior hiding the inner digging/chewing demon, I know it so well 😆
I’m gradually introducing more red roses to my purple, pink, lavender and white border. They do add a touch of liveliness to what could otherwise be a tame pastel scheme. For me, they have to be cool pink/purplish reds though.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@PeterAberdeen, yes you need to get a red rose and next year you will conclude it isn't really the kind of red you had in mind and you will buy couple of more reds!
An opportunity to highlight a highly scented red rose, a scent that is a match for anything at its best.. flowers continuously, a short climber to 10 feet.. would make a more suitable alternative to the oft planted but rampant 'Etoile de Hollande'.. It also has luxuriant spring foliage..
Lovely Marlorena. I regret not giving G an T more time before shovel pruning it, but it fried horribly in my south-facing border and I didn’t have an alternative, cooler location for it then.

Yes, @newbie77! Also Marchenzauber and Bordure Camaieu have very pretty leaves, similarly vibrant.
