Chandos Beauty Boule de Neige Lavender Lassie Ferdinand Pichard Rose des Cisterciens Lady of Shalott
(I definitely had a different six yesterday)
Newly-planted ones I am most excited about: Evelyn Lady Emma Hamilton Twilight Zone Kathryn (the Ronnie Rawlins one) Pope JP II Bouquet de la Mariée (because the pics look like dessert but it already has BS😳😁)
I wish I had tried a bit harder to get Brother Cadfael and Purple Lodge while they were still available.
The top 6 roses which makes me smile and happy are:
Lady Emma Hamilton Evelyn Tradescant - Sadly I’ve lost this and trying hard to get it again!
Jubilee Celebration The Prince Munstead Wood
Agree with @Nollie that I will try to rescue the discontinued roses before saving anything else.
@Tack Dames de Chenonceau is beautiful. How do you find its fragrance please? I have managed to update the rose list last night. As it stands I have 118 unique roses and I don’t think it will stop there
Mine too! I currently have around 70 including the new ones and probably binned about 20, maybe more...
@Tack, Dames de Chenonceau I would have in a flash if it were more resistant to rain. I would say ‘shenon-cee-oh’ but my French pronunciation is appalling so no idea if that’s right.
I kept MIP and indeed am building a bed/boat for it, but I think there are probably better bourbons. I read recently on hmf someone saying they had bourbon x and it was very similar in colour and form, but a much better, healthier bloomer. Can I remember what x was? Nope!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Impressive Rojas, and they are so well looked after.
Enjoying the DdeC love. Yes rain intolerance is its failing, I pull it under cover if heavy rain is forecast just when the buds are poised The scent is outstanding I think; strong raspberry sherbet, quite complex and I enjoy plunging my nose in the large soft petals to try and capture what the elusive evocative something is that makes it fizzy. I'm useless at scents though, don't rely on me for rose or wine descriptors. I went to Chenon and Chateau de Chenonceau on honeymoon and feel on top of its name however, sheh-non-sew (sew as in needlework)
The name is perfectly fine, it was just me thinking aloud.. when dealing with so many Old Roses we get used to a lot of French names don't we.. I once had one here called ''Mademoiselle la Comtesse de Leusse'.. I quite like some old Chinese names for roses and their translated forms.. as in.. 'White Pearl in Red Dragon's Mouth' ..and 'Tipsy Imperial Concubine' which I used to have here too..
118 is good going Rojas... I used to have about 90 but less than half that number now.. just 35... 'Tradescant' has a most exquisite bloom doesn't it..
Some mild nights on the way for some of us, so let's hope we see a few buds developing shortly..
