Yes, photo visible @WhereAreMySecateurs, hope doggie is OK and good luck tomorrow and with your imminent avalanche of rose deliveries. I have no delivery dates yet, but am likewise having the odd gulp over the ridiculous number of roses ordered from 3 different sources for my (ahem) ‘downsized’ rose garden.
@Tack if ever I move back to the UK I want to live in your clearly fab rose-growing neighbourhood, in your garden, in fact!
I have been repotting roses, studiously avoiding looking at the GJ beast in the corner 😆
I have also committed a cardinal sin by lopping off 1/3 of a grown leggy damask rose, which all books exhort you not to prune for the first three years except very lightly, for fear of the dreaded damask death. I figure it’s ok to break the rules knowingly so long as you are prepared for the consequences!
Super Trouper is producing decent blooms but it’s still coming out, since they are horrible in heat and clash with the softer tones of nearby Austins:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I clicked this one just before rain and I can't remember what it is.
This one is Abraham Darby
@Nollie, good luck with GJ repotting. Get some armour first! It's a shame that Super Trouper can't handle the heat. It is a beautiful orange in my shaded garden.
In all seriousness, if anyone wants to house sit my roses sometime and would like a place in a north London to look after for a while, let me know. It such a boon to go away, knowing that the plants will be well care for while one is away. DM for details...
Maybe a house swap? Not for me though I add quickly. We did this with a family from Mallorca yonks ago, we arrived at theirs to find an untrained dog, vicious cat and chickens to tend, none of which they'd mentioned. Roses would be a doddle in comparison. It was an ideal set up though, we swapped cars too.
Ouch. I have no dog, no cats, rats, geese, hampsters, chickens or bats. Just roses, some wild bees and some frogs that come and go from the pond as they please....
Crazy that people would leave for you animals to look after and feed without mentioning it ahead of time @Tack
The Falstaff and Jubilee Celebration bareroots came last night. They look good. Nothing else for me from DA for a good while. Failed to get MW and LEH, and doubt I'll be in time to buy Coronation Rose or whatever they are planning for next year's big cash-in.🤑
My dog is OK, thank you! Still quite knocked by the drugs and firmly glued to her favourite armchair. Anyone fancy a house-swap to Luton? (Ha.) She will eat your shoes, your phone, your bankcard...
What a great post with some amazing roses. Now I’ve gotten into gardening I’m also dreading leaving all my plants for holidays 😬
@WhereAreMySecateurs you are very close to me in Luton. Do you ever go to Harkness in Hitchin? They have some incredible roses. I bought a Chandos B from them this summer for a pot and it did so well:
However, I also got a Well Being which did very badly with the weather we had this year 😔
My Kordes performed the best this year by far with 120+ flowers in the first flush. I have some bare root kordes’ on the way 😀
