    @ciaranmcgrenera,
    well RD is a good sturdy bushy rose all right. Habit is compact and very shapely and healthy. Only drawback for me is absence of any fragrance.
    I was away almost a month last year during the heat wave and all of my roses went unwatered. RD was one of only 2 that showed no major ill effects.
    Not that I'm suggesting you should keep it thirsty like, but worth a note...
    Just another day at the plant...

    Hi, I am going to be away this summer for a month too. Do you have any tips and advise about how to prepare garden for it. Did the roses recover afterwards? What about perennials, did you loose those?

    Hi @newbie77,
    My roses looked pretty sorry for themselves, bedecked in a crispy brown second flush and dried leaves but most did recover with some judicious watering and a bit of TLC. I lost 2 potted patio roses which were completely dried out. I also lost 6 large annual hanging baskets which were also completely desiccated. All of my perennials are planted in the ground and didn't fare too badly.
    For preparation, a friend had volunteered to water for me, but unfortunately fell ill and was unable to attend.
    He's now recovered from the bruising and is doing fine also..

    Mine is just coming into it's 3rd year, so a still a juvenile really. It was at about 750mm before pruning and I've removed about 1/3 or so of that.
    It grows to about 1m or so, which should be this year I expect.
    It has, without doubt, the best growth habit and shape of any of my roses.

    @newbie77 I did it last year too. I couldn’t do much about the stuff in beds but I found most things perennials survived pretty well, and recovered well after a good feed/ water, deadhead, and prune when I came back. For pots for anything that was really important to me I set up a drip irrigation system that watered them for an hour twice per day triggered by sunrise/ sunset. I feel like I’m total it cost me around £100, which I feel like was a good investment, given the replacement cost of the plants involved.

    @newbie77 I did the same that I have installed drip irrigation system with a timer, I set up timer to water once a week for the period I was away and the plants were ok. This is the website I have used to purchase all. https://www.waterirrigation.co.uk/

    Thanks a lot @owd potter, @ciaranmcgrenera and @Rojas.

    This gives me a lot of hope that most of the things will be fine. I am doing preparation for most plants and will see the automatic water system as well. For couple of plants in tricky location, I will ask help from my neighbour. She has kindly offered to water all houseplants ( I have over 25!).
