Mary delany is the furthest ahead for me at the moment, I think I’m going to lower the wire above and a some extra ones in, I was a bit optimistic with the spacing 😆
I’ve also found a spot for climbing blue moon, it has a mega stem on it so I’ll train it above the hydrangeas
I tried taking rose cuttings for the first time at the end of last year. Looking like 3 of the 4 have taken. The last one, on the right, was doing ok up until the hard frost so I ‘may’ come through but I don’t think so. left to right is 2 stems of an unnamed white shrub rose, next 2 pots are joie de vivre and last one is a poorly indigoletta.
thanks @Nollie for the link.. The Timpson's one was expensive as it was some sort of metal.. but the one you chose seems more sensible in pricing and practicality..
@JessicaS I am not sure about Mill on the floss.. But I loved Scepter'd Isle for a 1st year bare root.. went with Marlorena's recommendation.. strong Myrrh scent as well.. but they do throw long canes..
@Emptyheadtime leave them on the same pots for atleast a year.. even with all the top growth the root development would be minimal...
@cooldoc oof thats droolworthy! I love the deep cupped ones. Its very much on my hmm list! I think QOS is less floppy but not as beautifully deep. Anyone got mill on the floss?
My handbook arrived. Cant fault the book, its a really lovely guide with companion planting tips and colour guides and allsorts. Very nice bloom shape picture guide. QOS in it does look nice, and lovely pictures.
The two teaser pics I assume must be the new ones colours? Be an odd choice to have two different pics behind that werent the new ones but we shall see. They do look like other existing ones.
I have a 2-3ft north facing border backed by a six foot fence. There are no buildings, overhanging trees or shrubs and it’s a very open aspect.
Can anyone suggest suitable roses that would be happy there?
@Marlorena I seem to remember you mentioning in an earlier post that you grow some of the DA English roses successfully in a north facing situation. Which ones do best in your opinion?
@Allyblueeyes Yes, that's ok, north facing but open is not a problem for these types of roses, and there is no need to limit oneself regarding choice..
However, 'The Poet's Wife', a good strong yellow, beautiful blooms, and lemon scent, did especially well in this location for me.. I do think something bright is needed for north facing..
@Marlorena@Mr. Vine Eye. Thank you so much! I can’t tell you how excited I am. I seriously thought I was running out of rose room 😩! That border currently has ferns and hydrangea which I thought were the only things suitable. It’s approx 12’ long so realistically, how many DA English Roses could I ‘cram’ in, bearing in mind The Generous Gardener is a climber? I can feel a rose splurge coming on 🤦🏼♀️

Morning everyone,
I have a 2-3ft north facing border backed by a six foot fence. There are no buildings, overhanging trees or shrubs and it’s a very open aspect.
Can anyone suggest suitable roses that would be happy there?

Thanks in advance.
