It seems that my sister and daughter have been paying me approx. £20/hr too little ;)

  • I hear folk say, " they need to save a deposit " etc etc. I ask those people " HOW ?"
Exactly, I don't believe many people could save a 10% deposit on a £330k property too easily, especially with the looming price increases on top of that. I had to move towns to afford 10% on 50% of a house but was still lucky to not be in as expensive an area as Brighton.

@Crazybeelady When I was in my thirties I would have loved a big garden. Having worked for someone with a small back yard I realised just how wonderful a small space can be. It was a Victorian house with six foot red brick walls to two sides of the yard and outhouses at the back that had lots of character.
On one wall there was a white climbing Iceberg mixed with the lovely dark red leaves of Parthenocissus henryana also Phormium Tricolour with red, green and creamy yellow stripes to the leaves. Plus a scented  blue iris. Not planted by me but I always loved the genius of this small area of plants. In winter the Phormium stood out but also the shapes on the wall created by the P henryana were beautiful. Galanthus at the base completed the look. Five plants which combined give all year interest. Who needs a big garden.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
  • @GardenerSuze yes there are some lovely small gardens out there, this is true. I think you need more vision for a small garden to use the space wisely; I don't have much unfortunately ha!

@Crazybeelady thank you for highlighting this as it appears to be minority perspective at least on this forum. I'm stuck long term renting with a private landlord at the age of 46.... Hubby is vulnerable but working and is 53. .. We will never own a home..... However, I've made our garden glorious! 😍 But I've learned to manage my expectations but well done to you for the extremes effort you have put in to get to where you are!!!!! It's far from easy these days!

When I need help in my garden, I want @WonkyWomble to help me. I will pay whatever it takes.
How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

There are cheaper places to live in London than Brixton.  They haven't got the vibe but hey ho. It's quite an expensive part of London to live in these days.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

When my son lived in Brixton he said it was one of the cheaper areas but in London cheap isn’t really a thing is it?
