What pretentious expressions. The sort I'd expect to hear from the likes of Piers Morgan.

It's seems that only angry Daily Mail tories use the word 'woke' as a replacement for "PC". Perhaps now that their rage against Europe has blown up in their face, they cast their bile wider.

Who is all this frantic 'signalling' supoosed to be signalling to?  You really think James Wonk gives a rat's fart what you think?

I think James Wong is rather lovely, no idea what that makes me.

I don't think the problem is specifically that younger people aren't interested in gardening.  It's a wider problem that the vast majority of young people don't seem to work hard and definitely don't want to get their hands dirty.  They want to be 'influencers', sitting on their arrisses, earning loads of money telling others what they should think and buy.

part of the problem is that many of us oldies don't want to pay a gardener a " professional " wage.
Gardeners are still considered " domestic staff " by many people.

@Hostafan1 That is why it is hurtful.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Most of us "oldies" don't want to pay a professional wage because we can't afford it.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

    therein lies the conundrum.

I worked for a couple with a brand new, £40,000 mercedes on their drive and when I told them my hourly rate, they sucked through their teeth and said " we're pensioners you know"
I turned and looked at their car and said
    "Nice car"
" oh it's brand new, it's his pride and joy"
" it must be wonderful being a pensioner "
She turned on here heels and walked away.

Many pensioner are poor, but many are nowhere near poor. This couple's house was worth between £1.5 and £2,000,000

Absolutely right @Hostafan1! The amount of people that label themselves pensioners to gain sympathy and support when they actually have a luxury lifestyle, is shameful! Not only that but they are the generation that had every opportunity of social mobility unlike the following generations that can't dream to own one house, let alone multiple homes!
If I carry on it will get political so I'm stopping there!
