Last time I posted on this thread was 2022 so guess I can update to the 2023 star of the garden here now and must give it to the Wisteria I have climbing up our garage at the side of the house. A cheap plant from a discount supermarket chain it has taken about eight years to finally bloom and I'm happy with the way it has turned out with flowers for a good length of time with a nice fragrance and they also seemed to be visited by the bees. Got a view of it at the start of this video clip.
The star of my garden has to be the salvia, which was bought with 4 stems and the potential to (we thought) produce several more next year. We have had over 100 stems, loads of flowers, and attracted bees galore.
I intend to buy more!!
Which variety do we have? Well, here's today's picture.
@rowlandscastle444 looks like Nachtvlinder. If it is it can be a bit of a thug, layering and rooting all over the place, so needs regular trimming to keep under control so keep an eye out for that.
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I could not say this year on the whole, but at the moment, a Eupatorium, bees of various kinds love it, and the last couple of days some Red Admiral and Peacock butterflies.
Is a Star Plant of the Season allowed? It has to be Aster Little Carlow in my garden. A sure sign Autumn has arrived.
I can see loads of bindweed growing up the roses behind it, but I can't get to it until the aster has finished. I usually give it a Chelsea Chop but forgot this year, so it's smothering the dahlias.
