All of the leaves on the magnolia stellata I planted last year turned brown and shrivelled. It has had a few good soaks and is now showing tiny bits of green.

    Fire said:

Locally we have had two major mains pipes burst in the last few days - both at the bottom of hills, shutting down some of north London. We are on clay and I imagine there is a lot of movement in the earth with everything drying out so much. (Not sure if that is the cause of the bursts). Water a metre deep in the streets.

Do you have a link to this @Fire,   I’ve looked at every bit of footage and the water is up to the cars hubcaps and soon stopped when they turned it off.   A flood of chest high water is quite a lot!

Our infrastructure is too old, and the money that shouldve been spent on updating it has been given to shareholders. 😡

@Lyn The reports say a metre. It's a hilly area, so it's easy to imagine certain lower areas would be much deeper than others. In fact, around here, it seems to be hills that pose the greatest problems

Interesting to listen to reports from the 2012 hosepipe bans now that we're 10 years on.

I saw early, Thames water is losing 635 million litres a day. That's a mind boggling, impossible to visualise volume and so is 3bn litres which is apparently what we lose as a nation daily. The target set by the government is to reduce loses to 10% by 2050 which will still put us far behind nationalised countries.

Plus thanks @Lyn I'm looking down every avenue for water storage but not in a hurry as we don't have rain for cast for a very long time.

Satelite image from this week. It doesn't appear to be doctored, and I know that much of it is probably natural agricultural seasonality, but it will be interesting to see how it compares to previous years. Just on the edge of the green here and the hills are turning yellow rapidly.

Well, I can see @Hostafan1's grass is still growing.

Impressive image @wild edges - where did you find it? Is there one of Europe as a whole?
