The effects of drought …

  • I genuinely wish I was older than I am, I dread to think what the future holds. I rarely bother saying anything about climate change to friends or family anymore, I usually get met with retorts like "oh sod off Greenpeace", which says it all really.

Oh dear @Crazybeelady  🤗 … I know we can’t choose our families .., but we can choose our friends … I’m not saying ditch the old ones, but maybe doing some activities with like-minded new acquaintances would at least give you a chance to talk about stuff you believe in, and give you a bit of respite?

Survival of the rock, is sort of irrelevant, if it is only the Cockroaches that survive.

I went through the 'it's all hopeless' stage about 20 years ago (having spent the previous 5 years being very angry all the time). I've got to the point now where I work every day, doing the best I can to change something and hoping - knowing actually - other people around the world are doing the same. There are huge commercial forces pushing the other way, I know that. Things are still going the wrong way but the rate of emissions increases are slowing. We won't stay under 1.5C but every 0.01C we can save makes a difference. I've stopped thinking I should be able to save the world and just take one teeny baby step at a time and hope it makes some difference.

    I don't have children though

Not sure if it was on here, chatting about saving the shower water ....we do it every year. Someone suggested standing in a garden trug in the bath. I stood in it in the garden the other day,(because I was so darn hot) it was dechlorinating for the fish pond, that was on level paving slabs, and really slippery. There is no way I would stand in it in a sloping bath,a sure recipe for disaster! There will always be us folks who try to do our bit for the planet, then the likes of Prince Harry bleated on about climate change while gadding around in a private jet. The Drax power station getting wood pellets from over 4k miles away, isn't eco friendly, and I understand it produces as much CO2 as if it was coal fired.

I am the same as RG. We won't turn it around and I can't change much but I try and make baby steps every day. No kids, no car, no pets. I'm still nowhere near sustainable living but I try. I stay out of anger and despair (most of the time) and try and put that energy into community and gardening. My family think it's all a load of middle class fringe hand wringing and laugh at me, which is sad, but there we are.

Surely you've heard the old rock and roll joke. It's said that after nuclear armageddon 4 things will survive, Rats, Cockroaches,  Keith Richards,  & Ozzie Osborne 🤩

Ozzy Osborne and Keith Richards, the basis of a great band.

I think I am right in thinking lichen can survive just about anything?
