It isn't - it's just concern for someone who is liked by many

    I just Googled this

    https://www.express.co.uk/life-style/property/1600905/why-Adam-Frost-moved-house-new-garden-gardeners-world-evg

apparently he had a revelation about his work life balance and decided to scale back

feels like it's only part of the story though - he  probably just realised he was living beyond his means! That last place must have been a fortune - I seem to remember his daughters also had horses there and thinking "where is all the money coming from??"
Horses are incredibly expensive to keep

I'm glad it's not illness though - unless he hasn't gone public about family situations which is understandable

He is also doing noticibly less on GW

There is nothing to say that family illness - as was reported at the time, wasn't the wake up call about the work/life balance.  Nothing either to suggest the move was for financial reasons.
The actual reasons are the business of nobody apart from Adam Frost.

I drive past his new place quite often but the front fence inhibits nosy peeks. If I walked along the pavement I could see a lot.

I have heard discussion of reasons for the move on the local grapevine but I do feel it is up to Adam to say it publicly if he is content for others to know.

why anyone should assume " he's living beyond his means " is baffling.

He's had a very successful career and no doubt has the intelligence to decide how much money he can afford.

Indeed. He is a Chelsea gold medal winner and a popular designer.

He has a rural accent …afraid there are still folk who look down on that.

Presumably when Covid and social distancing etc  arrived he had the business nous to put his gardening school project on the back burner for the time being … rent out the big house and consolidate … makes sound business sense to me.
