Good news re your OH Busy, safe easy journey for him back to Norfolk next week. Will you be joining him or will you wait for the outcome of this meeting? Very useful shed there @PatE - a treasure trove into the past surely? Those recent fires round the country are really awful, the poor folk have lost everything. Makes you think about how well your home or those near you would cope in the same circumstances doesn't it.
The early start was good ... the washing was in the machine, squash etc prepped and in the slow cooker for a batch of soup, bread proving, kitchen floor washed, a bit of watering done and another kilo of runner beans picked for me to prep while watching the athletics and all before 9am. Now the washing's on the line and bread was out of the oven by 10.30 ... however I've not started the beans yet ... Wordle took a bit of time ... 😡🤣
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
@Dovefromabove your comment re wordle made me laugh - I was particularly annoyed at myself that OH got it before I did! Hope all is well with all forkers after the heatwave. Worst affected seems to be cherry laurel boundary looks in v poor shape ( never perfect as is in old soil which is hard to improve due to position and not open "enough" to the ground), now looks excessively crispy on the top layer of leaves ( I'm assuming scorch in the full sun ) with remaining leaves dull and browning a lot in parts. I suspect i missed powdery mildew here - assumed was vine weevil only - and this is a combination accelerated by the sun. Ho hum.Â
@AnnaB I will go to Norfolk on 17th August. I'm going to see my children and friends in France. We are going to a friend's birthday party, posh hotel, evening dress, on 20th August.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good evening everyone, after 3 days of hibernation hiding from the heat we ventured out today. We went to Anglesey Abbey today. Interesting place the house interior was mostly in 20s style reflecting it's last main owners. Very extensive gardens and grounds, very noticeable the wider parkland is suffering from the drought and heat. The formal gardens have obviously been irrigated as they were ok.
