Fingers crossed for a safe journey back for your OH to the UK and that he will - finally - get his op. @Busy-Lizzie.
Lovely pics of veggies - only two of my French beans bothered to pop up and they are still tiny. And the greens under the netting are all looking a bit manky. I'm feeling quite despondent about the veg patch. But having watched GW this evening we agreed we'd just do potatoes next year. It always feels like digging up treasure.
Just catching up here before going to bed. It's been a busy day of phone calls and emails, but managed to make it to the lunchtime concert today - a solo cello performance of Bach and Britten. Astounding. The concerts are put on by a local musician who also runs a community choir. He and his OH want my help with promoting the Autumn season of lunchtime concerts. I'm happy to do it as I think they really do deserve a wider audience.
I do say no to things sometimes though - I was asked if I would be part of the judging panel for the Quality of Place awards in East Suffolk. Interesting though that sounds I just can't be doing with zoom meetings and site visits on top of everything else.
Overcast and a comfy 13C here … the forecast is for low 20s which suits me just fine. I’m sitting in bed with my second coffee listening to green woodpeckers yaffling outside.
Glad your OH has company and someone to drive him @Pat E … I’m just trying to get my head around the time difference … is he home yet? 🤔 the coffee probably hasn’t had time to work … 🕰 We have another early start today … OH has a long day at work and I’ll go to the farm shop and butcher to stick up for the week … one things for certain … we won’t need green veg … we’ve got loads of wonderful Swiss chard and runner beans in the garden … we could probably supply the shop 😂
We used to run lunchtime concerts when I worked at the Art and Early Music Centre @didyw … loved them, and they were very popular 😊

Hubby is home after meeting the Ophthalmic Surgeon for the first time. He will have one cataract removed next month and the second one in September 👏. I’m hoping it makes a big difference to his vision. I know it helped me when I had them done when we lived in Melbourne.
Morning everyone, a cool start here too. Hoping to get to the plots and do something other than watering all of the time. Unlike yesterday's parkland our grass paths are still growing on the plots, need to get the strimmer out . I also need to sow some more seeds, lettuce beans etc so we get some succession into the Autumn. Fingers crossed for all those with medical issues, that things are resolved soon.
Had a few computer glitches - should be fine now. Still very hot here - no sign of rain yet and the mercury is forecast to get even hotter next week. We will be a balmy 36°C this arvo!!
Picking tomatoes, courgettes, aubergines and cucumbers. My neighbour came the day before yesterday with 5kg of very ripe apricots - most are now "jammed" in a jar!! Crazy boiling jam in this heat!! The cicadas are singing their lovely songs!!
One ventures out at night for a meal in the promenade - after 8pm!! Being careful, as Covid is rampant especially with the influx of so many tourists and the nocturnal festivities!!
I was slightly bemused watching GW last night when Monty was disappointed with his potato harvest after saying he never watered them. Then there were all those exposed green tubers despite apparently earthing up. If he had been doing a Beechgrove style comparison to show the effects of watering and earthing up properly on a couple of trial plots that would have been useful information for new gardeners but I was left thinking he should know better.
I seem to remember that Monty usually harvested his first potatoes for his birthday, which I think was around the same time as my brother's which is 10 July. Perhaps he's still feeling the effects of that bout of Covid and just hasn't been up to doing much stuff, and although he has help in the garden now maybe the potatoes weren't a priority?
Bro was saying the other day that the supermarkets aren't taking the potatoes he's contracted to supply to them ... they're still selling Egyptian ones ... no one has been buying potatoes ......... Bro is considerably grumpy about it 😡he said if he didn't supply them when he was contracted to they'd never buy from him again .... but they've just told him they're going to backdate the dates in the contract and he'll have to put his production back a month ... exactly how is he supposed to do that ... anyone got a Tardis?
I'm home and all is packed away and washing is on the line. It's a good job I scrutinised that shopping list when I had my coffee ... I left it on the dining table ... but it looks as if I got everything ... evidence that my short term memory isn't packing up yet ... phew!
OH made a request for scampi and chips for supper ... he doesn't often make requests so I got some from the farm shop's freezer ... he may be thinking he's going to get frozen peas with that ... but I've just picked another batch of runner beans ...
Now I'll have a coffee and sit and prep the beans while I catch up with the overnight athletics ...
