He'd like that Fire. He'd bury the ladybird stone and eat the fungi if I didn't say no.

Had an enjoyable fungi forage today so plenty to ID.
I've never seen this one before but suspect it's lions mane fungi. It was only tiny, just a bit bigger than a 50p. Anyone confirm or otherwise please? Sorry it isn't a clear pic.

Could well be Lion's Mane, Hericium erinaceus but young specimens of fungi can be very hard to identify. It is a protected species so shouldn't be sampled or collected. It would be a very rare sighting for Scotland so worth recording by the relevant authorities. Worth going back to get a few better photos to aid ID.

Ok will do. Wouldn't it be good if that's the case

Is this one cortinarius triumpans, birch webcap steephill?

It is certainly a webcap and it looks like it has the remains of a couple of rings on the stem which is characteristic of the birch webcap. I wonder about the overall colour balance of your first photo though, your hand looks a bit blue and adjusting it gives a stronger yellow on the fungi. Does that sound right? The second photo looks to have a better balance and shows the slightly lilac gills expected in a young specimen.

powderpuff bracket or Postia ptychogaster would be my guess on this one.

Yes you could be right steephill. The light was very poor and I should have split it in half. It's where I walk Wee Uff so I'll get a better pic easily.

Thank you Skandi. When I was trying to positively ID I wondered about that too but hopefully by the end of the day I'll have better pics so will re-post them.

Uff.  Does it make your fingers go mauve?

    Only joking.

    Cheeky monkey. :)

Back to Glen Loy again today and having doubts about lions mane. Coin showing size and I found more under the log. Very difficult to focus as it seems almost translucent in the middle of it.

    Today's fungus find:

It's always a good idea to include something that shows scale.  (I'm obviously not as rich as you.)
