So pretty, loving all the colors, I have so many buds but they seem to be taking ages to open.
Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.

Aruna just starting. A satisfying purple.

I’m still waiting for Matilda, Crème de Cognac and Karma Choc to pop. I think they will make a better showing next year. No dahlias have succumbed to slugs or rot, thus far,  so I’m happy. It’s lovely to have bunches in the house again.

Squeeeee , I have a bud on my Coccina. I wasn’t expecting any this early. It’s a species dahlia that was barely above ground by the end of May. Now 5ft and might reach 8ft+ by the end of the summer. In the ground it would probably be taller than me by now. All an experiment

A really lovely palette! I'm going that way myself. I'm hoping Creme de Cognac will be in that kind of region.

Here’s a question for the old hands who might have tried moving dahlias mid season -

I have been away quite a bit this year, so when I got my three/four tree/v tall dahlia tubers this year 🙄 I put them into medium pots to grow on. I had the intention of then putting them in the ground when landed back for good in August. They all seem to be doing well (they are not dead). But I now I ponder - transferring them to the ground for the late summer / autumn will almost certainly cause some stasis for weeks or more before they settle.

I don’t expect the tall types to flower as
    - they generally need longer days that we can offer in the autumn
    - I didn’t receive them until June
    - they’ve been in pots that will be too small for them.

Next year I can put them in the ground. Hopefully the tubers will be nice and fat and will shoot away fast - hopefully the plant getting to 3m or more creating an annual forest in my small garden.

So - is it worth transplanting for August - Nov? The foliage is possibly robust enough to withstand slugs…

First two dahlias came out today, both from the same packet of 'mixed cactus' dahlia seeds.

Think I'll have to try and save this one, the colour is quite nice.
Trying to be the person my dog thinks I am!
