We went to the walled garden at Houghton Hall. It was really beautiful and very well looked after, not a weed in sight, edges straight as a die and lots of lovely plants. The rose garden was filled with scent. They lent a free mobility scooter and only charged for one ticket. We had lunch there too, sitting outside in the shade. I'll post photos.

While we were there the liaison nurse from the private hospital rang to say they are transferring OH to the NHS Hospital where there are more facilities. It will probably mean more delay. We asked if it would be OK if OH went to France for 5 weeks and she said no problem, they wouldn't arrange it as soon as that. She said that she would try to hurry things up so he wasn't put on the back of the waiting list as he's waited so long already. I hope it won't be ages, it's getting on for 3 years since he was referred to the surgeon, let alone the months he waited before he got the referral.

Morning all - another warm, sunny non-typical Alaskan day here. We're off to shoot sea otters and whales soon (with a camera I hasten to add) and it's a perfect day to be in a small boat.

We are anchored outside Wrangell which has a beach littered with petroglyphs (ancient stone carvings). Hope to get there but the timings of our excursion may make that difficult.

Here are some of the zodiacs used to get into small bays etc:

and (just for LB) here is a shot of part of the ship's science centre complete with polar bear skull:

BL - Good news OH can go back to France with you but fingers crossed his op isn't delayed any longer. I'm glad you enjoyed Houghton Hall. Think I'll be visiting there soon - we're planning 4 or 5 days in N Norfolk in the camper when we get back.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

Good morning Rosie and all. Oh wow T'bird, fabulous pictures there. Yes, I would still be filled with trepidation going on a Zodiac! Love the ship's science centre. I think I can make out a walrus skull too.
Chive and Hazel, I bet you were lathered doing all that gardening yesterday. Hazel, a lovely clemmie that one and the white delphinium will act as the perfect foil in you colourful garden.
Busy, you sound to have had a wonderful visit to Houghton Hall but it must have been very unsettling to get the message from the nurse. Fingers crossed that there are no setbacks on your return from France. Have you started packing yet??
Yvie - keep telling yourself that, but I bet you anything it doesn't work
I've got my cuppa Rosie. Friend hasn't surfaced yet but I've been outside and its lovely and warm already.

    Morning everyone,
Lots of early birds this morning. I woke up around 4, did nod off for awhile but still sort of half awake.  Have had a wander outside and everything looks lovely and fresh after the good watering we gave the garden last night.
@Chivetalking you had a busy day in the garden yesterday. And wet cloth things out nice and early this morning. Are you with the little ones or have you a day in the garden.
Seeing poppets tomorrow,  as its fathers day this weekend. Our village gets cut off on Sunday for the London to Brighton cycle ride. 🚲
