Oops trying to find out how to quote and I did it twice…living and learning. I heard the term fedge years ago…I think it’s real. A climber grown against a fence until it’s all one entity. I once had an ivy one, it became an absolute nightmare.
I had never heard this before either! Every day is a school day..thanks.
Fedge: A fence made up of living plants, especially willow, thus somewhat resembling a hedge.* The word 'fedge' is a combination of 'fence' and 'hedge. ' Willow cuttings root easily and are very flexible, which makes them the ideal choice for creating a living fence.
I raided my local Morrisons and Wilko today. Came back with:
4 little shrubs at £2 each from Morrisons: Lavatera, Escallonia, Cotoneaster, Gojiberry 4 little shrubs at £3 each from Wilko: Ceanothus, Viburnum tinus, Azalea, Choisya ternata
All in 9cm pots but around 1ft tall already with healthy growth.
Some of Morrison's £2 shrubs now discounted to £1.5.... so I doubled down:
Local Hilliers gc had a 2 day 1/2 price sale on everything. I saved £29. Much as I was itching to go on the 1st day I only managed the 2nd after lunch or I probably would have bought a Crabapple.
