SGL, my Mum managed to grow dahlias well in pots and for each medium sized dahlia she used a pot about 30cm (12 inches) diameter by the same depth.
Sun is shining here but it may not last. Forecast here for tomorrow is poor.

    Thank you @Ladybird4
My Mum and Nan always grew  Dahlias, but in the ground. I thought growing them in pots would be easier to lift them, plus I'm running out of sunny spots to plant in the ground 😉🤣

Hello all … hope all had a restful night … we woke in the night to hear the water butts filling up 👍
We’ve been busy getting ready for a friend who’s coming today to stay for a few days … trying to get ahead in the garden and with some meals so we can go out and about and still come home to a good meal. Curries and quiches are on the menu.

Re Smart meters, I must say we don’t have a problem with ours which was fitted about a year ago  … and there’s the huge advantage in that no longer do I/OH have to stand on a chair with a torch to read the meter and send monthly readings in order to get the lowest tariff (in normal times) … yes there’s a thingummy you can watch to see how much leccy you’re using, if you want to … but after the first couple of weeks we unplugged it and put it in a drawer, reasoning that even that it must be using some power if it’s plugged in. If we have a query about how much power a new appliance might be using we can get it out, plug it in and check it. But the Smart meter really is no trouble at all … we’re pleased we have it.  We don’t ever think about it being there in the garage doing what it does.
I would add that it’s one of the newer ones …. I believe there were some problems with the early ones … but this one should be switchable whichever provider we choose. 😊

    Morning all.

I slept much better. Woke at 2am for the loo, when we were supposed to be having thunderstorms, but no sign of one. It did rain in the night at some stage as the empty water butts are now half full.

  • Hazel a lucky cardigan find to take the chill away.  I’ve been to visit mum and dad and had lunch and then back home to potter.  My shoes arrived as I was quite developing a small hole in my regular ones, comfortable ballets in suede.  Prices have gone up in sm and no 3 for 2 offers on usual items.  Time for some tea.

Afternoon all,  Feeling a bit tired after a disturbed night, couldn't lie in as it was my art class this morning.  Had a call from Bestie who was feeling a bit low so I popped round for a chat and a bit of lunch.  That's about it really, apart from a click and collect shop.
    Hope everyone is OK.

Afternoon all. I had a good time at Bestie's. We decided to go and look for Jubilee decorations at the little retail park near her. We were quite staggered at the lack of any type of decoration and on enquiring discovered that the shops we visited were all sold out. Must be people organising street parties. We consoled ourselves by going for fish and chips at the rather nice restaurant there. We got chatting to the young girl who served us. Apparently this is her last week as she has qualified as a teacher and is going to teach primary age in Kuwait. Bestie made her laugh by saying she had attended the same college - only 40 years ago!
After we had eaten, we both fell into temptation as the SMs had displays of luscious plants outside. I bought two Ragged Robins - but the double variety - one standard pink (Lychnis flos-cuculi Petite Jenny) and the other white (Lychnis flos-cuculi Petit Henri)  . They will blend well with my Thalictrums. Bestie bought a tray of red and white petunias - continuing her Jubilee theme. She has got a lot of very beautiful blue lobelia at home.

Hazel, you are not the only one who found it a bit chilly first thing but it got out sunny here later. I took advantage of the nice weather when I got home to put Lily's TV into action and the wet cloth things are now hanging out.
Yvie, I hope that you have a better night tonight. Your Bestie will have welcomed your company I'm sure.
