I took about 300 photos last night and I think there were about 50 species of moth in the end along with some other interesting things. Only a couple of new species but hopefully this heat wave will bring a few more in the next week.

What a wonderful way to start the day. Big smiles from me. I love the David Bowie on the stage under the spot lights. All the moths today look Glam Rock stars. Animal print.
Found in the bathroom this morning. I think it is Mormo maura, the old lady. Apparently it is attracted to water . It was out of luck as Severn Trent turned the entire area off yesterday afternoon and it was out until after we went to bed. It is a big moth, but apparently not attracted to light traps.
It was great trapping weather last night. I think I got a least five new moths but it will take some time to sort all these out. Until then, a spot the moth challenge:

This moth is called Buff Arches. Some poor entomologist found this and was so dead inside he came up with that name. I would have called it The Bloody Amazing. Maybe he/she had seen much better and was a bit desensitised to such wonder, or maybe it's the entomologist's version of a cry for help. Photos can't show the shimmer of all that gold sadly.
