    Thank you @Marlorena, for clarifying that. I do not get particularly cold winters so I was surprised it did not come back but now I understand.

    ..they continue to flower right into late autumn if mild.  It's worth leaving them in the ground in milder areas just to see, they might over winter for you and flower earlier ... it forms a sturdy bushy plant if overwintering..
