Oh @Rubee you made me smile 😁 just visualising two little girls in their new dresses climbing trees. 🤭 We weren't allowed out to play o Sundays either, but then Sundays were usually spent visiting Nans and Grandads or Aunts and Uncles. But even when my boys were small they only played in the garden....or visited Nans etc. 😁 I didn't think any shops opened on Easter Sunday, certainly don't around here. @Biglad think I'd have been a bit miffed to be sat at B&Q to tell the odd customer that turned up that they were closed 🤦♀️ Could they not have put up a big banner with CLOSED Easter Sunday 🤷♀️
I've weeded bits of the garden inbetween reading a book. Time for a cup of tea. ☕☕
LB hope you collected the forgotten item from handy brothers. Chive cooler but still sunny, hope you’re relaxing. Debs hope all went well for your fiancé. Lily enjoy your time pottering. I hope you and oh are feeling much better and enjoying the fresh air together. Big lad how frustrating for you. When I was younger nothing was open on a Sunday either.
Happy Easter everyone. Sounds like everyone had a good time, apart from @Biglad. I used to work at the H.O. of Do It All and Easter was classed as the DIY sectors Christmas so I'm sure they would have loved to be open. Spent yesterday with Firstborn and the girls. Enjoyed time in their garden and had a lovely roast dinner. Ate too much chocolate and came home early evening and watched Blythe Spirit on the TV. While we were there we decided to join Firstborn on a holiday to their villa on Menorca during Whitsun. Just 6 days but looking forward to a bit of relaxation, Spanish food and sunshine. Flights and car hire are all booked, just need to sort out the insurance now. Spent today in the garden, mowing and edging lawns, potting up Calibrachia and pruning pheasant berry. Also tidied out the greenhouse ready for toms and cues. Moved quite a few pots about so will probably ache a bit tomorrow.
Hi @Yviestevie glad you've had a lovely time with your family. Holiday with Firstborn and family sounds lovely too. Something special to look forward to. It's still sunny here and quite warm. Makes you forget it's April. Just come in from the garden to decide on something for evening meal. Anyone watching The Theif, his wife and the Canoe? We recorded it last night, haven't watched it yet. Second episode is on tonight. Must think of something to eat, see you later. Have a lovely evening everyone.
Good afternoon everyone. Have managed to get quite a bit done in my garden today but there is still loads to do. Green bin is beginning to fill up.
Biglad, rant away. Its good to offload. I'd be emailing B&Q's head office with a strong message about the ineptitude of their site. That would have had me in a froth!
Busy. I hope that your spray session will be successful on the box plants. Monty had to give in in the end and dig all his low hedge out.
Ruby, I'm sharing SGL's smile at you and your cousin climbing trees in your new dresses. Oh the freedom that we had then, if we managed to escape the grown ups!
RosieBB, I did pick up the things I had forgotten yesterday. It was nice seeing handy brother again.
Yvie, what a fab day you had yesterday and oh the joy of having a holiday in the sun to look forward to.
SGL, I didn't watch that last night though there was a bit of an item about it on breakfast time.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Evening all. Back is aching now. Over the last couple of days I've completely emptied and spread the contents of one large compost bin and turned the contents of another large bin into the empty one. Now ready to start making this year's compost pile. Have a very large pile of shredding to do plus collected grass cuttings and some of last autumns leaves are just starting to break down, so layering that lot up should get things started.
@Biglad - I think I'm correct in saying that the only shops allowed to open on Christmas Day and Easter Sunday are the small 7 - 11 type corner shops. It was the government's concession to the Christian Church when the Sunday opening laws were pushed through. Poor website management by B&Q not to make that clear.
@Busy-Lizzie - I gave up the battle with my box last autumn - constantly dealing with blight (I think because my back garden is now very sheltered) and finally the box caterpillar arrived. I'm down to 5 large box balls and one very small hedge round a tiny border and that might yet come out.
@Yviestevie - Menorca at the end of May sounds lovely. We've just been finalising our plans for going to Germany in a couple of weeks. We're driving and going via the Netherlands so have been reading and re-reading the government websites for both countries to see if we have to fill in any forms or jump through other hoops re Covid. (No for Germany and possibly for NL - conflicting info on the website). Situation is slightly more complicated because the different states in Germany can impose their own restrictions so we've also had to check those as we'll be going to 3 different areas. What a game.
Time to start dinner now and pour a G&T I think....
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
I've pruned the Malvern Hills rose. I like to do it at this time of year, easier to see what is old and dead and what is growing leaves. I only cut out the dead stuff, there is usually quite a lot, but it's a big rose.
I'm off to start dinner too, prawn curry.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Gosh T'Bird, you have had a good workout today and I'm sure that the benefits of all that graft will show later on this year. It must be good to be planning your trip to Germany - hope that there isn't too much red tape to go through.

I am missing my quiz night tonight - hope I don't get brain atrophy. I've got my second booster tomorrow morning. I can park my car on 'sco car park, walk to the place where I had my other 3 injections and then I can do a shop before I go to help my friend by putting some new titchy light bulbs into the lights in her cooker hood. Sadly she can't see enough to do it herself. I do hope that I'll be able to do it for her.
