Good to see you Katsa, you have every excuse to not be on top of gardening. I hope someone knows what's going on with your rose and it is fixable.
My next house has to have a lovely wall to grow roses on, it'll be first requirement on the house wish list (I'm never moving btw).
I think if I saw Love Song I would get it, so much for needing no more roses.
But I am in love, even with this first imperfect Midsummer Nights Dream, so grateful to Marlorena for sharing her better picturesThis was the new bed you've been seeing for 2 years with Eye of the Tiger, RiB , Sandringham and Teasing Georgia Fried Egg Tree filling out the tuteur.
I personally think it's generally overstated that ants don't like to get wet. They are the absolute masters of building cellular homes to their exacting standards of ventilation and drainage. The love my soggy Hotbin composter - it really doesn't matter how wet or moist it gets - they just exend the cave network.
If you could dunk and cover the whole rose pot in a bucket, and leave it for a few hours, yes, that might get rid of them.
They are interesting beasts aren't they @Fire. I've only ever once seen a live badger, it crossed the path in front of me in the middle of the night. Thanks for posting it Â
@Suesyn many thanks for the photos, ah I see, yes it does have a greater root run than I thought. I kind of knew a rose of MAC’s size wouldn’t be happy in a pot, I’m just clutching at straws really. A better option is to build a large deep planter open to the ground where the roots would eventually fight with the boulders underneath. Gardening on a thin layer of soil over rock is very frustrating!
I gave up on SWE for the shattering as well @Eustace. Reds and purples are difficult to render accurately aren’t they? For me Royal Celebration would probably look exactly like your photo since purple is the least stable colour in my heat.Â
Another new opening, ground cover rose Avalanche Abricot (Delbard). Smallish bloom, has a fresh rosy fragrance with a hint of strawberry:

I'm happy that you're pleased with your rose @Tack it's a great colour isn't it...?
..so many lovely roses to catch up on today.. always nice to browse.. 'Wild Rover' on the arch.. ..lower down.. such nice foliage this time of year.. 'Mutabilis'.. 'Botzaris' and 'Duchesse de Brabant' in shot.. 'Mme. Lauriol de Barny'.. south side, on the Enclosure.. ..north side.. Dalmatian foxgloves..
Sorry no diagnosis for you @Katsa, I know ants can damage rose roots and inhibit their growth but I’ve no idea what those deposits are on the lower canes/roots - ant poo, eggs?? Maybe try scraping those off if you can and soaking in a bucket as Fire suggests, before repotting. Hope the little one is doing ok and you are getting some sleep!
