@Katsa, usually deep watering every couple of days helps to make ants move away from rose.

I’ve tried that since March. These were VERY stubborn ants 😢

I personally think it's generally overstated that ants don't like to get wet. They are the absolute masters of building cellular homes to their exacting standards of ventilation and drainage. The love my soggy Hotbin composter - it really doesn't matter how wet or moist it gets - they just exend the cave network.

If you could dunk and cover the whole rose pot in a bucket, and leave it for a few hours, yes, that might get rid of them.

That's a lovely mix on your wall @Eustace, they look really sweet together.

They are interesting beasts aren't they @Fire.  I've only ever once seen a live badger, it crossed the path in front of me in the middle of the night.  Thanks for posting it :)

Sorry no diagnosis for you @Katsa, I know ants can damage rose roots and inhibit their growth but I’ve no idea what those deposits are on the lower canes/roots - ant poo, eggs?? Maybe try scraping those off if you can and soaking in a bucket as Fire suggests, before repotting. Hope the little one is doing ok and you are getting some sleep!
