@Nollie@Marlorena. Thank you for the replies.  It does look a lot like the Grifferaie . 🌹 It would be lovely if it did grow to 8ft tall (it’s only 2 feet since I cut off the top standard bit as the stem was going brown) as it has that old world charm about it that is so nice for growing around a structure. Scent reminds me of childhood - lovely and sweet. Here are a few more photos -  pic 2 is of the first bloom that didn’t ever open properly and has now dried up.
..it's used as an interstem for standard roses in some places, [the roots that are in the ground may be a different variety].. more on the Continent I think.. perhaps the rose was an import, but it may still be used in the UK, depending on source..
It must be June because some activity is starting to happen in Sponge Gardens. Pity about the super strong winds at the mo but at least it is not accompanied by rain (fingers crossed).
Summer Sweetheart, unscented but reliable, looks after itself and easy to maintain
One of my most joyful and heart warming roses, Gallica officinalis, the first of my summer flowerers to start a flush
A segment of Westerland showing it's various shades with Rhapsody in Blue and Blush Noisette just starting in the background The mid section of the garden from both sides as it is looking colourfully cheerful
I have been lurking on these threads for the past couple of years.  I now have quite a few roses mostly DA’s. Â
I have posted a picture below of my east facing front garden, which has undergone a few changes since we moved here five years ago, from a gravel parking space to what you see below.Â
There are 10 roses in there somewhere, the two on the obelisks are only a year old and are just big enough to tie in the bottom.
One of the things I have learnt from you all is to be a little braver when pruning as I did not cut back enough this year and the roses are having to be supported in places.Â

Sumptuous Charles de Mills @Omori and @peteS, I also thought the Gentle Hermione was beautiful Omori
You have a lot of roses @Eustace, I didn't know you had Queen of Sweden. I wouldn't mind seeing more of that one.
Enjoyed seeing the aerial shots, I don't think I have seen your garden before @Athelas, very nicely designed
Marvellous yellows @newbie77 and @Tack, I almost thought I could smell some of them, they are so luxurious
Beautiful and peaceful sunrise shot @edhelka, I really like that photo
Sweet Harlow Carr cascade @Nollie
