Lol! So long as Lady Hillingdon has the sense not to do it in a crowded theatre.
Really beautiful blooms, Nollie... I think I do need that rose, too.
Re: trying to peg or tie a bendier HT sideways, isn't there also some method of producing sideshoots that involves making little slits near a bud down the stem? Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I saw or read something ages ago about it.
@WhereAreMySecateurs, it is called notching. Search for Notch or notching in forum. Marlorena had explained it. I learnt from her though I have not yet tried.Â
I’m rather in love with Lady Hillingdon myself, siren that she is! Early days for her and Buff Beauty since they both need another couple of years to judge fairly. But, of the two so far, if I was forced to pick only one, no contest, the Lady gets my vote.
Hmm, more early days, but I suspect this ground cover rose is not a keeper. It has a horrid habit, the few blooms it has bothered to put out face the ground and so far has produced no laterals on its splayed canes. Avalanche Abricot:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
I tried the notching method and it worked on my climbing EduH but not on New Dawn. I believe it only works on climbing roses if I remember Marlorena correctly. Talking of New Dawn, I picked this posy just before it rained.Â
Just have a moment to look at lovely roses and begin to relax. Thank you Secateurs for the good wishes. The wedding was so lovely, now down to only the bride and groom (my son) here as houseguests. The roses have performed beautifully with special mention to the climbers for their late flush. I urgently need to deadhead and water after days of neglect.
