Guilty twice purplerallim! Newbie bears the blame for Versigny and WAMS for Boule de Neige. Impressive list @dabolem, but you forgot Stormy Weather, another great purple you really, really must have 😆Â
This morning The Prince has given me a perfect bloom:
Guy Savoy, must put that trellis up behind to disguise the downpipe and water butt:
Sorry Ivor, you’ve been dumped and rechristened Flamenco Rosita:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@Nollie yes, I forgot Stormy Weather, but there is something that doesn’t work with the filers on TCL website, because I filtered for Purple, Violet and Blue roses and Stormy Weather was not there so I thought they don’t have it.
I bought Night Owl instead, hoping it’s similar? Next time I’ll do a search for the name of roses!
I wont be ordering anything this autumn, no roses and no other plants. I am struggling to manage everything this year with no rain.Â
I have an Evelyn on order but I have read that own root Evelyn does better so still thinking about it. May be I will cancel the order and try rooting cuttings. I would like to have an own root Munstead Wood and an Evelyn but have not yet managed to root any cuttings.Â
I have some cuttings , taken last year, that now have some bushy growth, first time I've managed this. So what do I do now? The trouble is there are three in the pot, with faded labels, so no idea if they are the same roses, so would potting them up separately be appropriate now?
Yes, it’s the same with many websites @dabolem, probably an oversight with TCL. Night Owl is more of a true climber, I think, but Stormy Weather can also be grown as a shrub because the canes support themselves.
Yes, I would pot them up separately now @purplerallim and wait to see what surprises are in store..
Ah yes, Lavender Lassie is another that’s been on my long wishlist for a long time, but I have very few places for climbers @WhereAreMySecateurs. Hot stone walls and hedges are not conducive. I have also found that roses on metal structures have suffered this year in the excessive heat, so I might have to rethink my materials.
@newbie77 and WAMS, re differences between own root versus grafted.. laxa rootstock can cope better with alkaline soils and does give vigour and, I think, hardiness. The US seem to sell mostly own root but where grafted are available, their rootstocks are different, mainly Dr. Huey and Multiflora. So I’m not sure if the differences always translate if you are looking at info from across the pond. I have only taken cuttings of Munstead Wood, but it’s something I should get into more. @Marlorena could probably outline the differences, if any, better than me?

Thanks @Nollie. I didn't think about different rootstock when I read about own root Evelyn. So that comparison might not be true for grafted and own root plants here.Â
Some of my bedding cyclamen from last year are showing a sign of life. I have watered them to see what happens.Â
Does anyone here who has Falstaff please confirm that it is a repeat bloomer? My friend who grows it is currently on holiday and, as the Dirty Harry character said, I gots to know.  Nollie's red-purple collection definitely makes me yearn for more of those shades)
It doesn't look as though Perennial Blue is going to bother repeat blooming in its first year, just as @Marlorena said might happen.
@Nollie Do the Soul blooms spoil in rain/heat? Also will the colour of Stormy Weather fade in afternoon sun? Your great purple collection made me to look for purple and blue roses as I have currently got pink everywhere. 🤔. Many Thanks.

I'm holding fire with rose orders till the econonic situation becomes clearer- vet bills, a child starting secondary and of course the energy crisis ahead🤯🤯🤯- so far just have Evelyn, WS2k, Bouquet de la Mariée, Liliana and Pretty Jessica on order. I hope to add Night Owl, Ghislaine de Féligonde and some yellows-- perhaps Tottering by Gently, though it's invariably out of stock when I place DA orders.
Amazing Day is out (slow to rebloom for me in its first year), Ebb Tide, Lavender Lassie very wafty and pretty, Gruss an Aachen
